• Izmir - We will meet you at your hotel’s lobby or at the exit gate of the arrival gate from Izmir port/airport and drive to Ephesus, which takes about an hour.

This city, once a thriving hub of culture, trade, and civilization, has a rich history spanning millennia. Let’s embark on a journey through time to explore the fascinating story of Ephesus.

Early Origins and Greek Legacy

Ephesus traces its origins back to around 3000 BC when it was founded by Ionian Greeks. This auspicious beginning set the stage for its eventual prominence. Initially established as a port settlement along the Aegean Sea, Ephesus flourished due to its strategic location and access to fertile lands.
As centuries passed, Ephesus joined the Ionian League, a confederation of Greek city-states in Asia Minor. During this period, the city experienced remarkable growth and cultural development.

• Meryemana (The Virgin Mary’s House) - The House of the Virgin Mary, situated on Mount Koressos near Ephesus, holds great significance in Christian tradition. It is believed to be the place where the Virgin Mary spent her later years, following her journey with Saint John to Ephesus. This humble stone house has been a destination for pilgrims and tourists alike, seeking a connection to the mother of Jesus. The site’s peaceful and serene atmosphere, along with its historical and religious significance, makes it a must-visit for those interested in Christian history and spirituality.
• The Temple of Artemis - The Temple of Artemis, located just outside Ephesus, was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. This colossal temple was dedicated to the Greek goddess Artemis, the patron deity of Ephesus. The temple was known for its immense size and stunning architecture, featuring over 100 columns, each standing approximately 40 feet high. It was a center of religious worship and attracted pilgrims and travelers from all over the ancient world. Unfortunately, the Temple of Artemis was destroyed and rebuilt several times throughout history, and today, only a few scattered columns and foundations remain at the original site. Nevertheless, it remains an important part of Ephesus’s historical and archaeological legacy, as well as a testament to the architectural marvels of antiquity.
