More than a chocolate experience - I knew some of the cocoa process before but to see everything up close filled in any gaps in prior knowledge. We were shown the entire process - the flower, small pod, mature and ripened pods to the beans inside. It included a detailed explanation of the fermentation, drying, roasting, shelling and grinding process. We got to taste samples during the various stages prior to converted cocoa beans to the most delicious hot chocolate and melted chocolate on fruit I have had. My group was less than 10 people so we were able to get close to watch and of course sample! Our guide was fun, took time to answer questions in both Spanish and English. It gave me a much better appreciation of all the labor involved when I consume a piece of dark chocolate!

One word, ‘meh’ - The tour guide was great and could be very entertaining, but I would describe the overall experience as ‘meh.’ We did get an informative lesson on the history of chocolate and the steps to make it, but I was expecting more of a hands-on experience. I wanted to make chocolate, so maybe I just needed to better understand what the experience included. I feel like it is overpriced for what it is. I didn’t hate it, but can’t give it ‘2 thumbs up’ either!

Not worth the cost - When we pulled up to the site and saw that this was part of the "Adventure Park," I realized this experience wasn't quite what I thought I'd signed up for. First, though: The tour guide, Gary, was AWESOME. Only positive things to say about Gary! That said, the overall experience was pretty lackluster. We learned a few interesting things about chocolate making, but it all cumulated in... hot chocolate? Everyone was hot and sweaty; the last thing anyone wanted was HOT chocolate! The excursion was advertised as including "All-you-can-eat tasting of delicious Costa Rican chocolates" and that wasn't the case at all. Just the hot chocolate and a few pieces of candy made earlier in the day. We were told we could could purchase finished product on our way out, but it was just the same Britt stuff available in every tourist shop. Kind of disappointing and DEFINITELY not worth the price. Gary was awesome though.
