Highlights
  • Istiqlal Mosque - Upon arriving at Istiqlal Mosque, we can take some photos of the mosque and the nearby Cathedral from the outside. Before entering the mosque, the guide will lead you inside. The exploration of the mosque will be completed with other travelers. As per Muslim regulations, shoes must be removed before entering. We will wait for the other travelers to finish their exploration with the local guide. Istiqlal, also known as Independence Mosque, is the largest mosque in Southeast Asia and the 9th largest in the world by worshiper capacity. After the visit, we will cross the street to visit the old church.
  • Jakarta Cathedral - Upon arriving at the Cathedral, we can take some photos outside or visit the interior to admire its design. The Cathedral is one of the oldest churches, predating the mosque, and has a rich history dating back to the Dutch era. This neo-gothic church was consecrated in 1901, having been rebuilt on the same site. The Jakarta Cathedral is located near Merdeka Square, the presidential palace, and directly opposite Istiqlal Mosque. After visiting, we will continue sightseeing and stop for photos at the monument.
  • Merdeka Square - After the Cathedral, we will proceed to Chinatown, passing by the presidential palace and stopping for photos at the National Monument. The National Monument, a 132-meter obelisk in the center of Merdeka Square, symbolizes Indonesia’s fight for independence and serves as a landmark of the capital. After the photo stop, we will continue sightseeing in the modern areas of the city.
  • Selamat Datang Monument - The Selamat Datang Monument (“Selamat Datang” means “Welcome” in Indonesian), also known as Monumen Bundaran HI or Monumen Bunderan HI (for ‘Hotel Indonesia roundabout’), is located in Central Jakarta. Completed in 1962 by sculptor Edhi Sunarso, it is one of Jakarta’s historic landmarks. We will then continue to northern Jakarta, which has historical significance.
  • Glodok Chinatown - Visiting Chinatown, which dates back to the old era, we will see the old pagoda built in 1650. Jakarta’s Chinatown is one of the busiest and most fascinating, being the largest in the country. We will visit the big market and its temple. The guide will explore with us, and we may take a Tuk Tuk to the Old Town. This is optional and can be discussed, as the driver will either wait for us or park directly at the Old Town.
  • Jakarta Old Town - Upon arriving at Old Town Batavia, the guide will explain its history. Known as “Kota Tua,” it serves as a reminder of Indonesia’s history dominated by Europeans. Many buildings here feature European and Chinese architectural styles. Built in the 17th century, the town hall and its square date back to the Dutch VOC colonial era. We will then proceed to see the Puppet or Wayang studio.
  • Makutharama Puppet Studio - Still in the Old Town area, many colonial-era buildings that were once used as offices, churches, and banks are now museums, studios, and cafes. One such building houses the puppet studio, a fascinating attraction where you can see how puppets are made and enjoy a 9-minute show if time permits. It is also a great place to buy souvenirs.
  • Sunda Kelapa Harbour - Arriving at the old harbor, not far from the Old Town, we will see where traders and sailors first came to the city. This harbor, which dates back to the 15th century, was dominated by Asian ethnic groups before the Europeans arrived. It remains active for logistic trading with old Phinisi boats. This will be our last stop before heading back to the hotel, which will take 45 minutes to 1 hour.

Perfect half-day tour of this lively city - Had an incredible tour with Saleh who took me all around the city in an air-conditioned car and on foot. His English was excellent and took the time to show me and explain all of the sites we visited. Really, really enjoyed it. I would recommend this company to anyone wanting to know more about Jakarta.
