Highlights
  • Jeongbang Waterfall - Jeongbang waterfall

This waterfall is a symbol of Jeju Island and is the only one in Asia that cascades directly into the sea. It’s a spot where you can dip your feet in the water. The rock wall of Jeongjeong Waterfall has the Chinese characters ‘Seobulgwacha’ inscribed on it. According to legend, an envoy from Qin Shi Huang visited Yeongju Mountain (now Mount Halla) in Jeju Island in search of the herb of immortality and left this inscription. The area around Jeongbang Waterfall is rocky, so you need to tread carefully, and while the stairs are easy to descend, navigating the area can be challenging. As the only natural waterfall in Asia that flows into the sea, it offers stunning scenery, especially when rainbows appear in photos. Jeongbang Falls is one of Jeju Island’s top 10 hidden gems and a must-visit tourist spot.

  • Saryeoni Forest Path - This is a 15-kilometer forest trail that stretches from Bijarim Road south of Jeolmul Oreum in Bonggae-dong, Jeju-si, through Mulchat Oreum, to Saryeoni Oreum in Namwon-eup, Seogwipo-si. Recent forest reclamation projects have turned this area into a place for forest healing, nature learning activities, and experiencing forest culture. It promotes health, the value of forests, and a love for nature through tree planting, which acts as a carbon sink. It’s gaining attention as an ecological space.
  • Jeju Stone Park - The Stone Culture Park is a museum and ecological park that showcases Jeju’s stone culture comprehensively and systematically. The exhibition hall opened on June 3, 2006, after seven years of construction. The park is vast, so it’s best to visit with plenty of time. Located in front of Oreum, a unique natural heritage of Jeju, the park’s entrance is marked by a castle-like structure made of piled stones, offering a cool view of the surroundings.

As you follow the viewing path from the entrance, you’ll encounter various stone sculptures inspired by the tale of Seolmundae Halmang and her son, General Oh Baek. The museum itself is underground, not above ground.

  • Sangumburi Crater - Sangumburi Crater is a parasitic volcanic crater of Hallasan Mountain and the only submerged volcano on Jeju Island.

The crater’s outer circumference is 2,067m, the inner circumference is 756m, and its depth ranges from 100-146m, forming a conical cliff. The floor area is about 8,000 pyeong. The crater rarely emitted lava; instead, an explosion created a deep hole, scattering material in all directions with only a small amount accumulating around it. Despite its larger diameter and depth compared to Baeknokdam, water doesn’t accumulate in the crater but flows out to the sea through the basalt gravel layer of the crater wall. This type of crater is called a maar, and Sangumburi Crater is unique in Korea, with only a few others found in Japan and Germany.

  • Seopjikoji - Seopjikoji is a beach that gained fame when Korean actors Lee Byung-hun and Song Hye-kyo filmed a drama there.

At the top of Seopjikoji, you can see tuff along with the beautiful open sea and rape flower fields. A lighthouse fire station built of volcanic rock stands 4m high and 9m in diameter at the hill’s summit. Behind Bonghwa Fire Station is Byeonghwa Oreum, filled with red soil. The white lighthouse on the cone contrasts sharply with its surroundings.
At Seopjikoji, you can take photos as you leave the parking lot, climb the lighthouse, and admire the sea’s majesty or capture it in a photo.

If you continue along the coastal road past the lighthouse, you’ll reach the coastal road without needing to return to the starting point. A taxi will be waiting for you. On clear days, you can also see women divers at work.

  • Seongsan Ilchulbong - Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak is a World Natural Heritage site, and it takes about an hour for a round trip to climb and descend.

Standing at 182m tall, Seongsan means a mountain resembling a castle, and Ilchulbong means the peak where the sun rises.

Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak also features haenyeo performances, which can be viewed twice daily at 2:00 PM, though they may be canceled in bad weather.

Seongsan Ilchulbong was formed by lava erupting from the seabed, rising high, and then hardening. The outer wall of the fortress has 99 stone pillars resembling a crown descending from the sky. It takes about 30 minutes to reach the top from the ticket office. Climb Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak to experience the grandeur of nature.

  • Haenyeo Museum - The Jeju Haenyeo Museum is located in a fishing village overlooking a white sandy beach in Sehwa-ri, Gujwa-eup. It exhibits materials related to the ocean, fishing villages, folklore, and fishing, focusing on Jeju’s haenyeo culture, which dates back to ancient times. All exhibits inside and outside the museum were donated by haenyeo. The exhibition hall includes an actual haenyeo’s house, showcasing food culture, childrearing, half-urban farming, and Yeongdeunggut culture in detail. The 7-minute video is a must-watch.

The haenyeo’s skills are acquired through long-term training and experience. Starting at around age 8, they learn to swim and dive in the village’s shallow waters, becoming baby haenyeo around age 15. Haenyeo work requires a high degree of skill, as they must hold their breath and work for over a minute while enduring strong water pressure at 15m depths.

  • Woljeongri Beach - At Woljeong-ri Beach, you can take a walk on the beach and snap some photos. There are many cafes along the beach road, making it a great spot for a coffee break.

At Woljeong Beach, you can take jumping photos or enjoy tea at one of the many cafes.

  • Dongmun Market - Explore Jeju’s traditional markets, where you can sample a variety of foods and observe the daily life of Jeju residents. This market offers a glimpse into Jeju’s unique culture and bustling lifestyle, different from other travel destinations.
  • Jeju Horse Pasture - The 5.16 Jeju Horse Ranch on Road is home to Jeju purebred horses, designated as Natural Monument No. 347 since 1986. Also known as Gosoo Horses, they roam freely in the Hallasan grassland. These gentle horses are known for their resilience to cold weather. The Jeju Horse Ranch is a protected cultural heritage area, so entry is prohibited, and grazing is restricted in winter, making it hard to see the horses. On clear days, you can take photos of horses grazing and running in the vast, green grassland, creating beautiful memories. On cloudy days, the foggy and dreamy Jeju Horse Ranch offers a different charm.

Jeju horses, descendants of Genghis Khan’s horses, can only be seen in Jeju and Mongolia. Watching them graze is a peaceful and calming experience.

  • Seongeup Folk Village - This village has been home to people living in traditional thatched houses since ancient times. Historically, Seongeup Village was the center of Jeju, where horses and cattle were sent to the king and central government. You can visit the traditional thatched houses for free and see a traditional toilet.

In Seongeup Folk Village, stroll along the stone wall alley to experience the lifestyle of Jeju residents. You can also try on Hanbok and learn about the use of traditional toilets.

  • Hamdeok Seoubong Beach - Among Jeju Island’s many beaches, Hyeopjae, Gimnyeong, and Hamdeok are known for their beautiful ocean colors. The clear, shallow waters make it a great vacation spot for families. The west side of the beach is connected by a cloud bridge, allowing you to walk on the ocean.

The lawn is perfect for picnics, and the walking path is safe to enjoy even at night, attracting visitors year-round. In summer, the beach is open at night, offering a chance to enjoy Jeju’s blue nights by the ocean.

Seoubong, located nearby, offers picturesque views in every season, with yellow rapeseed flowers in spring and lush greenery in summer. Climbing Seoubong provides a panoramic view of Hamdeok Beach, and on clear days, you can see Hallasan Mountain and the eastern oreums.

Great day in Jeju! - We had a great day with Mr Ko Suhong who took us to Udo island, sunrise peak, folk village, and many places in between. I highly recommend Mr Ko Suhong taxi driver on Jeju! He made our trip incredibly memorable with his extensive knowledge of the island, taking us to beautiful and local places that we wouldn't have found on our own. His kindness and hospitality were evident throughout our journey, and his comfortable car made traveling around Jeju easy. If you're looking for a reliable and friendly driver who can show you the best of Jeju, he's your guy!

Thanks Mr Kim - Mr Kim was really great! - before booking we had looked into renting a car to drive ourselves, but in my opinion this was worth the cost (car rental would have required foreign driving license, and Google Maps doesn’t work well in the area) - would recommend downloading Papago for scanning signposts - jeju stone park was closed the day of our tour so would recommend checking in advance - Mr Kim was helpful in taking us to different Korean food restaurant stops along the way since the children we traveled with needed a couple meals throughout the day

Average tour - beautiful sights but underwhelming experience - I want to write a fair review and think a 3 star review is considered and justified. The best part of the tour is the very comfortable jumbo taxi - this was very spacious, smooth-riding, and beautifully air conditioned. The driver was experienced and driving felt very safe. The driver was friendly and enthusiastic/very keen to chat, even given limitations in English we were able to have conversations using Google Translate. The biggest disappointment to the tour (and reason for 3 star review); is that we feel our experience was different to that advertised. I think some guidance to the time spent at each attraction point or a more flexible travelling schedule or itinerary would have been very helpful - seeing me and my family were the only passengers on this private tour. Of the items listed on the itinerary, we spent 10minutes at Woljeongri Beach, 30minutes at Haenyeo Museum, 1.5hours at Seongsan Ilchulbong, 45minutes at Seopjikoji Cape, 30minutes at Seongeup Folk Village, 20minutes at Sangumburi, and 45minutes at Jeju Stone Museum. We hadn't been taken to visit the Jeongbang Waterfall or Saryeoni Forest Path; and felt completely rushed in the afternoon - especially at Sangumburi, where we were whisked through a short period of time despite also having had to pay an entrance fee. Whilst some of this might have been due to general poor time allocation (eg we were asked to walk another 20minutes along Seongeup Folk Village although we no longer wished to); the tour also ended by 430pm (8am start), hence I don't think we were in any way late. I think overall this is a tour which has great potential, but also significant potential to improve.
