Sangumburi Crater -
Sangumburi Crater stands out among Jeju’s over 360 parasitic cones because it wasn’t created by the accumulation of erupted materials. Rather, it’s a maar-type parasitic cone that emerged as a crater with an opening due to the expulsion of a large amount of material. The crater’s inner space spans 300,000 square meters, with an interior bottom perimeter of 756 meters and an outer perimeter of 2,070 meters. The crater walls are nearly vertical and rise to about 130 meters, making it somewhat bigger and deeper than Hallasan Mountain. In the fall, the crater’s ridges are transformed into a golden hue by the silvergrass, while the cedar trees, predominantly planted on the eastern and western slopes, become the most prominent species. Sawtooth oak trees are also present in the vicinity. Additionally, Korean Fir trees have been planted to create a forest trail. Apart from these dense forests, large areas of the crater are blanketed with Eulalia grass colonies.
