Additional Information

Shanghai’s history of migration has made it China’s largest and most diverse city. Long-time locals have called this place home since it was a sleepy fishing village, yet skyscraper-studded business districts have attracted plenty of outsiders who keep Shanghai at the forefront of global trends.

What does it all mean? It can be difficult to discern the good from the great in a city with over 8000 coffee shops and a plethora of eateries offering flavors from every corner of China and beyond. But fear not, for we’ve spent decades eating (and sipping) our way through the city, and we’ve got the best lined up for you – all tucked away in the charming streets of old-Shanghai.

Guide Angela was the best! - This tour was amazing! We got to try so many different foods that we would have never been able to order on our own. The guide's know-how was amazing and we got to see some really authentic spots. Highly recommend!

Nice experience and lots of food! - Very cool experience we had on the breakfast food tour with Maddy and Ann! You have a chance to try lots of different food options, learn history of those dishes and how they came to the location. See for yourself on the photos attached how many different dishes we had an opportunity to try and this is on top of two coffee places which are unique as well. Join the Lost Plate tours! I assure you would not regret it! PS. Dear Lost Plate team, I strongly believe you can rename the tour to brunch experience.😁 With such a great selection anyone would be safe for lunch too (because still full).

The best!! - Even though I am quite familiar with Shanghai, I loved this tour!! With guides that know all local vendors, you get that extra authentic feeling. The food is amazing and it is so great to be able to visit even the smallest food stalls and to be welcomed the way we were having our guide bu our side. Definitely recommend having this tour, I feel like it is a way of showing appreciation to the neighborhood and its vendors. Just dive right in and let Lost Plate take you on a mouth watering tour through one of the remaining authentic parts of old Shanghai!

Fantastic morning - We had a lovely morning with our friendly host, Anis. She told us some interesting information about the area we were visiting, and very knowledgeable. She checked if we had any food allergies (thankfully we don’t!) and we were off sampling some new and delicious food. I particularly liked the savory pancake ( I’ve forgotten the proper name!) I’d definitely recommend this tour to anyone interested in food and seeing a different side to Shanghai.

This was an amazing activity to do - I really liked the experience of the tour. I did a tour with my partner and we really enjoyed going to the different places. My favorite dish was the egg based dish.

Breakfast tour of old Shanghai - I live in Shanghai for about 2 years, but have to say it is getting difficult to find very good local street foods, wet markets, and traditional shops. Our guide Abby showed us a very nice local, which includes all in one area! We enjoyed a lot, thanks for guiding us!

Wonderful breakfast tour of old Shanghai - Had a really good time with Anis. She took us all around the tilanqiao area, we visited markets, temples, old residential apartment buildings and stopped at a lot of cool place to eat classics like the Shanghai breakfast pancake and fresh soy milk. Would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a fun morning in Shanghai with great street food.

A little piece of authentic Shanghai - We loved our breakfast food tour with Anis! She was very friendly and informative. It was clear how much she loves food and Shanghai! We learned a lot about food as well as the history of the area. The food was all delicious! We have been living in Shanghai for 9 months but too scared to try street food because we are vegetarians. It was so wonderful to taste more authentic Chinese breakfast food, knowing that our dietary restrictions were considered. Besides this, all communication with Lost Plate was prompt and professional- excellent service! Will definitely be joining you guys for another tour!
