The examination at the end of the course is based on the National Barista Championship rules.\n\nAn introduction to the art of the Barista for anyone considering a career in coffee, who works in a restaurant and/or bar and wants to learn to pour the perfect cup. This is an ideal bolt onto the end of your IBC course as it takes place on the Saturday following each course. Do you know what the perfect cup tastes like?\n\nThis course will give you all the information you need to get started, but you will only become a true Barista after many many hours of coffee making.

  • Cappuccino - A cappuccino is an espresso-based coffee drink that originated in Italy, and is traditionally prepared with steamed milk foam.
  • Espresso - Espresso is a coffee-making method in which a small amount of nearly boiling water is forced under pressure through finely-ground coffee beans
  • Cortado - A cortado is a drink consisting of espresso mixed with an equal amount of warm milk. The milk is steamed, but not frothy and “texturized”.

Comprising of 70% hands-on practice and 30% theory, the course spans over three days and seven hours.

Since the year 2010, Shaker has been providing barista training at our facilities in Cape Town and Johannesburg. In alliance with Cape Town Barista School, Johannesburg Barista School, and Michu Coffee, students are exposed to comprehensive knowledge about superior-tasting coffee. The accumulated wisdom from our award-winning baristas condenses into our concise courses. Our team remains available for guidance during and after the course for a successful coffee career.
