6 Rue des Baumes - We meet at 9.30am in the atelier for an introduction to art tools and techniques, we talk about drawing and composition, then walk to nearby sites for drawing en-plein-air.
At 12.30pm we break for lunch which is taken at one of the local cafés (not included in fee), then reconvene and work in the atelier from 2pm. Introduction to water-based media and painting techniques. We consider art materials, brushes, style, strategy of working with each medium. You choose your best composition and produce a beautiful painting. We finish around 6pm.

Wouldn’t it be fantastic to do an art workshop whilst visiting Provence? We offer a relaxing experience in an authentic and beautiful village, with a qualified teacher who is also a practicing artist. Jean-Louis has degrees in Fine Arts (BA painting major) and teaching (Dip Ed, Art) and 30 years experience teaching art to all ages - so you can be confident that you’ll receive expert tuition. We don’t need to go far as our plein-air locations are reached by foot, in or around the village. Being an historical and beautiful village Jouques offers many aspects that are inspirational for any artist.
Our one-day workshop at ARTELIER PROVENCE includes studio and outdoor art activities, it can be customised for individuals and small group requirements.
We also offer 4 day residential art retreats with accommodation, ‘Art in Provence’ or ‘Encaustic comes alive’, look us up online.
Jouques is an easy 50 minute bus ride from Aix-en-Provence, or 30 minutes by car.
- Drawing and painting experience is preferable
