Highlights
  • Mt. Fuji 5th Station - Mount Fuji is more than just a mountain. Known as Fujiyama or Fuji-san in Japanese, it is located in central Japan. Standing as the highest mountain in Japan, it reaches 12,388 ft (3,776 m) near the Pacific coast in central Honshu. With its elegant volcanic cone, dormant since 1707, Mount Fuji has gained international fame. It is revered as a sacred symbol of Japan, attracting thousands of Japanese climbers to its peak shrine every summer.

Access to the 5th station is entirely dependent on weather conditions.

  • Arakura Fuji Sengen Shrine - Arakurayama Sengen Park is renowned globally for its views of Mount Fuji. In spring, the blooming cherry blossoms create a stunning scene featuring a five-storied pagoda and Mount Fuji, a sight unique to Japan. The park not only offers magnificent views of the mountain throughout the seasons but also serves as a popular spot for enjoying the beautiful nightscape of Fujiyoshida City.
  • Oshino Hakkai - Oshino Hakkai (忍野八海) consists of eight picturesque ponds in Oshino, a small village in the Fuji Five Lake region, situated between Lake Kawaguchiko and Lake Yamanakako. These ponds are remnants of a former sixth lake that dried up several hundred years ago. They are fed by snowmelt from Mount Fuji, which filters through porous lava layers for over 80 years, resulting in exceptionally clear spring water revered by locals.
  • Mt. Fuji Panoramic Ropeway - The Mount Fuji Panoramic Ropeway (富士山パノラマロープウェイ) climbs 400 meters from the eastern shore of Lake Kawaguchiko to an observation deck near the summit of Mount Tenjo. From this deck, which is over 1000 meters above sea level, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the lake below and Mount Fuji.
  • Oishi Park - Oishi Park (大石公園) is located on the northern shore of Lake Kawaguchiko. The park offers a splendid view of both the lake and Mount Fuji simultaneously. Various flowers bloom along the lakeside promenade according to the season. Oishi Park is also famous for hosting the Kawaguchiko Herb Festival, a well-known early summer event.
  • Lake Kawaguchiko - Lake Kawaguchiko (河口湖) is the most accessible of the Fuji Five Lakes, with train and direct bus connections to Tokyo. A hot spring resort town with numerous tourist attractions and views of Mount Fuji is situated around the lake’s eastern end, while the northern and western shores remain largely undeveloped.

The best views of Mount Fuji can be seen from the lake’s northern shores, especially during the cherry blossom season in mid-April and the autumn foliage in early November. One of the best spots for cherry blossoms is the lakeside promenade near the Kawaguchiko Music Forest, while photographers will appreciate the “Momiji Tunnel” for autumn colors, a maple tree-lined road section further west.

  • Kitaguchi Hongu Fuji Sengen Jinja Shrine - Kitaguchi Hongu Fuji Sengen Shrine is one of about 1,300 Asama shrines in Japan that honor the deity of volcanoes, particularly Mount Fuji. The shrine is part of the Mt. Fuji UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site, designated in 2013.

Asama shrines are dedicated to Konohanasakuya-hime, the goddess of Mt. Fuji and all volcanoes in Japanese mythology. Most Asama shrines are within sight of Mt. Fuji; where this is not possible due to distance or obstructions, miniature replicas of Mt. Fuji made from the mountain’s rocks are erected within the shrine grounds.
