Highlights
  • Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic - The golden-roofed Temple of the Sacred Tooth houses Sri Lanka’s most important Buddhist relic – a tooth of the Buddha. During puja (offerings or prayers), the heavily guarded room housing the tooth is open to devotees and tourists. However, you don’t actually see the tooth. It’s kept in a gold casket shaped like a dagoba (stupa), which contains a series of six dagoba caskets of diminishing size.

As well as the revered main temple, the complex includes a series of smaller temples, shrines and museums.

What's Included
  • Private transportation
  • In-vehicle air conditioning
Additional Information

Some days Kandy’s skies seem perpetually bruised, with stubborn mist clinging to the hills surrounding the city’s beautiful centerpiece lake. Delicate hill-country breezes impel the mist to gently part, revealing colorful houses amid Kandy’s improbable forested halo. In the centre of town, three-wheelers careen around slippery corners, raising a soft spray that threatens the silk saris worn by local women. Here’s a city that looks good even when it’s raining.

And when the drizzle subsides, cobalt-blue skies reveal a city of imposing colonial-era and Kandyan architecture, none more impressive than the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, one of Buddhism’s most sacred shrines.
History and culture are on tap. Yes, the city is renowned for the great Kandy Esala Perahera festival (held annually in July/August), but its vibrant cultural life and attractions more than justify a visit at any time of year.

Lux tours Lanka - Nice tour if you would like to go to the umbalawawa tower. On the way the tuktuk driver stopped at a fruit stand where we got an abundance of fruit (bananas, papaya, mango, coconut). Then we were taken to the spice walk, where we got an explanation about different plants used to make medicines. Here we also got a short massage with sandalwood oil. Then we were going to go to the tea factory, but it was closed because it was a holiday. We were taken to a gemstone polishing shop because of this. This was fun to watch, but the tea factory would have been more our thing. After the tour you can also buy jewellery with real gemstones?. All this for +/- €16 (without entrance tower, massage, tips). So you get your money's worth.

Quick Trip Zooming Around Kandy with Laxman - We had a short tour around Kandy with respectful, friendly, and knowledgeable guide. Went to the herbal garden, woodcarving workshop, and the tea factory. Had a pitstop where we were treated to local fruits and driven around the lake as well. It was all in short notice and Laxman definitely took us for a ride! It surely is a trip to remember for many years.

Great experience and a great commitment - A great team the two brothers. We travelled as a family with two daughters and were very enthusiastic about the commitment they have shown us. They showed us Kandy at his best without having to pay high entrance fees. They also tried extremely hard to get us 4 train tickets from Kandy to Ella. We were very grateful for the support and can highly recommend Luxtours.

Unforgettable Journey - We had an incredible experience with Lassima, who showcased the beauty of Kandy and took us on a fascinating journey through Sri Lanka's history, culture, and Buddhist rituals. With Lassima's profound knowledge and the professionalism of his driver, Shanee, we traveled from Kandy to Nuwera Eliya, Ella, and Hikkaduwa, making unforgettable memories along the way. The well-planned pit stops allowed us to immerse ourselves in the local culture, taste delicious cuisine and fruits, and capture stunning photographs. The prices was very reasonable, we felt safe and comfortable. Car was new, clean and safe. We highly recommend Lassima and Shanee for anyone planning a trip to Sri Lanka, as their passion and commitment to an unforgettable experience truly set them apart.

Kandy day tour — Best Guide in Sri Lanka! - I rarely write reviews. However, given the quality of the service, I must share it. The best guide I've had in Sri Lanka. He listens, is extremely knowledgeable and inspiring with his Buddhist philosophy, which he transmits with passion. I spent a whole day in Kandy with the guide and his tuktuk, visiting temples, tea factory, botanical garden and viewpoints. By far the best way to discover Kandy and its surroundings for a very reasonable price. Highly recommend it.

Kandy tuk tuk tour - I was picked up like a lost puppy from the side of the road while having a casual stroll through Kandy. At first I was sceptical but after discussing a price and an itinerary, my mind was put at easy and I took the punt. I am so glad I did because I was shown so much more than I would have found going it alone! We started at a magnificent Buddhist temple, then went to a few different landmarks around Kandy with some beautiful panoramic scenes, sampled a few roadside gems like a delicious king coconut and juicy corn on the cob, followed by a trip to the Ceylon tea factory and then a delicious traditional lunch. All in all, I would 100 percent recommend lux tours to anyone wanting to see Kandy.
