Kumbal Perahera
The Kumbal Perahera commences on the sixth night and lasts for five days. Initially, the Devale Perahera congregates in front of the Temple of the Tooth. The Basnayake Nilames (the lay custodians of the Devales) accompany the emblems positioned on the ransivige (a dome-like structure). All these Peraheras will feature drummers and dancers.
For the ensuing five nights, the “Devale Peraheras” are conducted within the grounds of the four Devales. Each Devale’s priest leading the procession every evening, accompanied by the sounds of music and drumming, flag and canopy carriers, spearman and the Ran Ayudha, the divine symbols of the Gods.
The below significant periods are signified by the shooting of cannonballs, whose sound can be heard throughout Kandy.
• The initiation of the Devale Perahera
• The inception of the Dalada Maligawa Perahera
• The termination of the Perahera
