Galle Fort - Stop 2. Visit the Galle Dutch Fort and explore the bustling city. Located in the Bay of Galle on Sri Lanka’s southwest coast, the fort was initially built by the Portuguese in 1588 and extensively fortified by the Dutch from 1649 onwards. This historical, archaeological, and architectural heritage site has maintained its polished appearance for over 423 years, thanks to extensive reconstruction by the Archaeological Department of Sri Lanka.
