Out to Sea in Ketchikan - A raw and real experience. A " rain or come shine" type outing. Close to nature. Saw whales, eagles, harbor seals and marine creatures. Led by Eric and Delaney (husband and wife) owner/operators. Great narration, imparted tons of knowledge and facts, friendly and enthusiastic. If you want a realistic nature tour, this is for you.

Stop Looking! This is the tour you want! - If you’re looking for something a little different to the normal cruise ship shore excursion offering or perhaps you would like to try a bit more adventurous, this may be the perfect tour for you. Delaney and Eric, owners of Out To Sea Expeditions gave us the most delightful tour of the waters around Ketchikan. We were outfitted with rain gear which were well maintained and very clean. You could tell by the organization of the gear room and the shop how every detail is considered by the owners. For anyone worried about whether the gear will fit. They accommodated my 6’7” tall big guy husband without any problem and larger sizes yet were available. We were given a safety briefing, donned lifejackets, boarded the zodiac, and were off on our adventure. On our tour, we were lucky, experiencing no rain, just clouds. As we are bird watchers and so were they, our time was enhanced by getting several life birds that they eagerly scouted out the best locations to find. We were happy to see seals hauled out on the rocks, bald eagles on their nest, starfish and anemones up close, a couple of deer who had managed to swim out to a small island (later found out they had to be rescued and taken back to shore). We did see a couple of whale blows at a distance. The whole of the tour was so informative and both Delaney and Eric answered any questions we had and told us so many interesting facts and details. Warm drinks and water were also offered. A glimpse into the type of business these two wonderful folks are running came when we found out upon arrival that the 6 other people who had booked the tour had cancelled last minute. The decision could have been made to cancel our tour since it left only the two of us, but they said it wasn’t our fault and they wouldn’t never cancel even if only taking two people. A true class act. Give Out to Sea Expeditions a try! Wonderful guides, fun boating experience, lots of wildlife. It’s what you’re looking for!

Great wildlife tour - We had a wonderful excursion with Delaney and Eric! The rainy weather didn't stop us from enjoying the breathtaking scenery and the pleasant company of our guides. Their passion and knowledge of the local species and where to find them were remarkable. We got to see many marine and coastal species including seals, porpoises and even a whale! Would 100% choose this tour again!

A great tour regardless of the weather - We had a rainy but lovely afternoon with Delaney and Eric this memorial day weekend. It was chilly and wet the day we visited Ketchikan, but that didn't stop Delaney and Eric from showing us around the beautiful landscape and wildlife of Ketchikan. They provided all the gears to keep us warm and dry in the rain and we were able to see the a few humpbacks (I screamed the first time I saw the tail), bunch of bald eagles (flying, resting, juvenile, adult, etc) and other birds, many harbor seals swimming as a group, sea stars, and many more wildlife! Delaney was not only knowledgeable (and full of love for her home in Ketchikan) but also engaged my 5 year old daughter the whole time. Highly recommend!

Worth every cent spent. Crew was great! A must do! - When I was looking for an excursion in Ketchikan, I came upon the name Out to Sea Expedition. One previous review caught my attention, as it referred to being the only person to use their services, which spoke volumes of the care that the ownership/staff have for their customers. Turned out to be so very true, Despite the rain, the wind, the cold, the adventure in the zodiac was great. Captain Eric, Naturalist Jenny (the water fowl queen) new when to venture for the best sightings. Eagles, whales, sea otters, various water fowl, 5 harbor seals (clowned for us), The knowledge that both Captain Eric and Jenny have is limitless, as is their passion for the seas, They along with Delany make sure the tourists are well taken care of with proper preparedness before the excursion and during. I highly recommend booking a special day with Out to Sea Expedition Company. When I return to Ketchikan, I will book a second excursion. (Thanks Delaney for the tip about NY Cafe. Owner speaks highly of you. Fish chowder-great) Thanks Richard, "the spotter".

A Whale of a Time! Must book! - This was our first visit to Alaska, with a keen interest in whale watching. We scheduled our excursion with Out to Sea Expeditions while stationed in Ketchikan. The excursion emerged as the pinnacle of our journey. The proprietors themselves were our guides. They were exceptionally personable, ensuring our comfort throughout the trip. Their extensive knowledge of the locale was evident, providing us with abundant information about the surrounding area and islands. They prioritized our comfort and safety, adhering to the standard distances for observing whales. However, the whales seemed to have their own rules. I couldn’t have asked for a more enriching experience.

Awesome Outing - We loved our excursion with Out to Sea Expeditions while in Ketchikan, Alaska. The staff is very friendly, safety conscious and helpful with fitting us for life jackets & water gear to keep us dry and warm. Believe me, you will be glad to have the opportunity to wear the provided gear! We saw whales, eagles, starfish, anemones, all kinds of ducks & birds, fish, porpoises, seals and other wildlife I am forgetting. This was an amazing outing that I am so thankful to have experienced. Eric & Delaney are extremely knowledgable and have such a love for the area and what they are blessed to do each day. You will not be sorry if you choose Out to Sea for an outing while visiting Ketchikan.

Fantastic Expedition - This was a truly amazing experience. My parents love being out on the water, and so we chose to go out with Out to Sea Expeditions, and they showed us the natural beauty of Southeast Alaska by water. They are great, as they have a smaller boat than most companies, so they are able to go to a lot of places that the larger boats can't go to, and they are able to get a lot closer to shore than some of the other companies. Highlights from our excursion included: - Getting hands on with some of the plants found in Southeast Alaska - Learning about the inter-tidal ecosystems - Seeing the Beaver Clan House and the Saxman Totem Park from the water - BIRDING! If anyone is wondering if they should book with Out to Sea Expeditions, just do it. It will be an experience that you will not easily forget. 10/10 will go again!
