Relaxing Nature Tour with possible Wildlife! - This was a nice and relaxing nature tour with some possibilities of seeing wildlife . Itinerary includes pick-up and transportation to the Rainforest Sanctuary (15minutes one way ). Then you will be joined by the tour guide. We had Elizabeth accompany us on this tour and she was AMAZING! She was very well educated on botany and environmental science. She was funny, quick, super friendly, and made us feel very comfortable. The tour guide will provide you cool information on the different vegetation and wildlife that calls this forest their home! Note that the forest trail is mostly flat and does not require any moderate hikes at all. After the forest walk , there will be an estuary with a boardwalk path where you may see some wildlife such as bears, birds, seals etc. This then leads to the totem park where they have professional carvers and blacksmiths a little museum and store . Note: They do not have the birds of prey anymore at the habitat . Their viator/tripadvisor listing needs to be updated for this disclaimer . This is due to concerns over the bird’s health so make sure to respect that! Overall , it was a good way to spend the last few hours of our time in Ketchikan . Relaxing and we learned many things! Thank you for the pleasant experience .

Wet and interesting Ketchikan rainforest - Emily was a very entertaining guide. Her knowledge of the flora and fauna was extensive. As a Ketchikan native she had a number of good stories. We saw an eagle, a couple of juvenile eagles, and some harbor seals. The weather was rough but we still had a good time.

Bears! Bears! Bears! - We booked the "Black Bear, Wild Life and Nature Walk" Tour through Princess Cruises. We were transferred to the Alaska Rainforest Sanctuary by bus and we spent a few hours walking on paths and elevated walkways. We were told what to do if we saw a bear and our guide pointed out various plants, berries, a bear den and claw marks along our walk. Seven bears appeared during our walk. The highlight of the walk was when we were all standing quietly at a spot near the river when we saw a mama bear and her three cubs walking toward us. They all walked right under our elevated platform and into the river. The cubs were adorable and it was amazing to watch them playing in the river. After we saw the bears, we were taken to the sanctuary where they have a resident bald eagle and an owl. We were also able to see a totem pole being carved. This was a great tour!

Ketchikan tour worth a shot! - While on our cruise, we took this tour in Ketchikan. We were 5 adults and two children and we thoroughly enjoyed all of it! The Rainforest walk was very enlightening and Mickey pointed out many varieties of plants, berries and trees found throughout the rainforest. We also saw bears Mamma & cubs in the nearby stream as well as salmon. We visited the raptor center and saw the totem pole "village. It was a wonderful exposure to Ketchikan.

Sanctuary walking tour. - Our driver met us at the Rain Gauge right next to the port visitors center. We took a short ride along the coast to the Sanctuary entry. The driver answered our questions along the way to the entry. There we met our local guide, Emily. She specializes in the forest and fauna of Tongass NP. She was excellent. We saw salmon berries, blueberries, tree fungus and deer heart ground cover. She even pointed out a tree trunk bear den, bear scat and bear claw scratches that extended far up the tree. Eagles flew over our head in the forest and landed in trees nearby. When we got to the estuary, there were many eagles, most of which were in flight. No bears or eagle fishing, since we were a few weeks early of the salmon spawning. But, seeing all the eagles flying and sparring with one another was fabulous. The elevated walkway gave a great perspective. Next, we visited the Alaska Raptor Center. I was looking forward to this. It did not disappoint! We saw a red-tailed hawk, bald eagle and great horned owl up close and personal. We then headed over to the Herring Cove sawmill (shuttered) and tribesman totem carving area. What a great easy walk and educational experience. I was disappointed that it ended so soon. Overall, a great tour!

Learning about Alaska's Rainforest - It was a great learning experience. I highly recommend as an early part of your trip so that you can identify native flora and fauna during your other activities in Alaska. Our tour included a guided hike through the rainforest, a short session watching a totem pole being carved, a visit to the gift shop, and time to admire the totem pole collection. Be quick with your souvenir purchases, so that you can have plenty of time to see the totem poles! The staff was very friendly and helpful.

Great nature & wildlife tour, just right! - We wanted a wilderness experience but with some understanding of the natural and cultural environment and this tour did not disappoint. Ben was our guide he was knowledgeable and personable and made the tour both interesting and enjoyable. We had the added treat of seeing a black bear with her three cubs feeding in the river it was indeed a special day out. The totem poles are impressive and it’s just the right length of tour, even the bus driver was fun and knowledgeable. Good tour from start to finish.

Rainforest walk - Really enjoyed the walk through the rainforest and the knowledgeable guide. Steven was funny and took time to explain things in a memorable way. Wished we had seen bears. Apparently the group before us saw them, so I guess you just can’t predict that. Plenty of eagles and a blue heron.

Short walk. - We took a guided rainforest walk here (and rain, it certainly did). It's a pretty short walk, and while the commentary is OK, it's a little underwhelming. It's probably my fault as I should have better research what was on offer, but I had assumed that in the time, we would have covered a bit more ground. At least we saw a bear in a tree!

Informative forest & totem tour with no guaranteed wildlife - Bus drivers are very informative and fun, telling silly jokes along the way to pass the travel time. Our tour guide was very informative on the rainforest and local wildlife in the area and did a great job explaining it all to us. However, we were disappointed that there was no wildlife, no eagles or owls as in the video description. Tickets advised us that there were no more birds on site and offered a refund, but it was too late to choose another excursion, as we only receive our tickets the day before the tour. Had we been aware sooner, we would have chosen another tour, as we were not just interested in learning about the forest. If they no longer have the birds or can guarantee any wildlife sightings, then it should no longer be included in the video description. Upon rereading the description of the tour, it does state that seasonal ecosystem changes result in varying wildlife activity. We only saw a large banana slug and bear claw marks on some trees. We were told that based on the river level, sealions can appear but unfortunately, we were at low tide so there was nothing there. There was no carver demonstrating his work as also stated in the video, but someone did come out to explain why and how they carve totem poles, along with answering any questions we had. There was a partially carved, in progress totem pole on display for us to see. There was a lot of totem poles to view at the end of the tour, along with a story told by our guide about the meaning of one of them. We would have appreciated knowing before purchasing tickets that there was no wildlife on this tour, and it was mostly learning about the rainforest preserve.
