Great Tlingit & Haida Cultural Information Tour (Authentic and Welcoming) - First, our tour guide, Yeil Bryant, did an excellent job running the tour and providing the great talks about the history and current cultural aspects of Saxman Village and the Haida and Tlingit Nations. We toured the totem pole carving shop where one of the Haida carvers, Norman, also provided detail about the history and current carving techniques. Norman was also carving a small piece while there and one of his completed totem poles for a customer was in the shop. Next was the dance demonstration in the long house. Members of the Tlingit nation danced numerous times and at the end invited any guests/tourists to join them on stage for a final dance. I feel very honoured to wear Bill's Eagle Clan robe (absolutely beautiful) and to dance with the Tlingit Nation members. After that Yeil Bryant provided the stories behind the numerous totem poles on site. At the end everyone had time to either wander the grounds or head to the shop to purchase items which we did to further support Saxman Village. This is time well spent when in Ketchikan and a brief but information sense introduction to the Haida and Tlingit Nations. I highly recommend this tour and would do it again. Gunalcheesh (thank you in Tlingit).

An Authentic Way to Experience Ketchican - We received great round trip transportation from our cruise port with Gere to the activity center. When we arrived at the first part of our experience Evelyn greeted us and shared local stories. Lee served us great food and drink from the area. It was very enjoyable. After our time with them Yeil toured us around so we saw traditional dance and then totem carving. I highly recommend booking this experience if you are visiting.

Good teacher - Valerie K was our guide in the van. She gave us additional information beyond the actual tour we had at the native village.

Enjoyed the native history & perspective - This tour of the Saxman Native Totem Poles & Clan House was offered by our cruise ship. It didn't include Ketchikan. It was a nice to learn more Native history and information apart from all the wildlife & nature tours. Our tour guide Nico was wonderful & did a great job with the little time he had with us. The native show with all the kids dancing was well done and with so much energy compared to an show we saw earlier on our cruise. They even invited anyone to come up and dance with them!

Food, and chatting - Had a lot of fun. Joe and Lee were great hosts. We recommend the Spruce Tip Soda. Great time talking with the tour guide and hearing both local and personal histories of our guides. Since it was raining, we were happy we booked this excursion. Other excursions got rained out buy not ours.
