Highlights
  • Queen Sirikit National Convention Center - This unique half-day excursion begins daily at 08:00 and 13:00 hrs from MRT Station Queen Sirikit (Exit number 1).
  • Khlong Toei Market - Our first stop is Talat Klongtoey, the largest fresh market in Bangkok and one of the city’s most authentic. It draws a diverse crowd, from street food vendors to chefs from top hotels. The market is like a small town within the city, featuring stalls that sell everything from fresh produce, herbs, and meat to live frogs, ducks, chickens, clothes, and more.
  • Chao Phraya River - After exploring the market, we take a short tuk-tuk ride to the pier and board a longtail boat to cross the Chao Phraya River, known as the ‘River of Kings.’
  • Bangkachao - Upon disembarking on the other side, it feels like entering a different world. There are no high-rise buildings, minimal traffic, and an abundance of greenery. Welcome to Bangkok’s ‘Green Lung’! This area remains largely undiscovered by tourists, offering the sounds of birds instead of city traffic.

Here, traditional Thai samlors (bicycle taxis) await to take us through the ‘Green Lung’ or ‘Bangkok Jungle.’

Riding in the samlor provides a glimpse into local life, far removed from the bustling tourist spots. It feels as though Bangkok is hundreds of kilometers away!

We pass banana trees and coconut plantations, local stilt houses, and stop at a non-touristy Buddhist temple. At a local restaurant, we enjoy a delicious Thai meal (Pad Thai or Khao Pad) before heading to a well-maintained public park to feed the fish. If you’re lucky, you might spot the park’s famous monitor lizards, which, despite their intimidating appearance, are harmless.

  • Queen Sirikit National Convention Center - Sadly, it’s time to return to the pier and cross back to busy Bangkok. On the other side, the guide will help you find a taxi back to your hotel.

Additional Information

Falling coconuts, papaya groves, Buddhist temples, nine-foot-long pythons, and miles of bike-friendly elevated sidewalks winding through the jungle: Welcome to Bang Krachao, a smog-free, government-protected green haven embraced by the mighty Chao Phraya River.

This lush island is even more extraordinary because it lies just across the river from Bangkok. The difference between “Bangkok’s Green Lung,” as the palm-filled, lung-shaped Bang Krachao is called, and the concrete jungle on the other side of the river is stark. Downtown Bangkok’s central Silom business district is merely about six miles away.
