Nestled within the Black Mountains of Mohave County, Arizona, Oatman started its journey as a tiny mining outpost. Two gold panners landed a series of gold scores escalating to $10 million dollars in total! This considerable discovery resulted in Oatman’s population expanding by over 3,500 individuals within a single year - a testament to this place’s unique allure, observable only by its inhabitants or visitors.
Oatman’s name traces back to Olive Oatman, a young maiden who was abducted and enslaved by indigenous tribes during her family’s Western expedition. In 1856, she was exchanged to the Mohave Tribe who, as per their tradition, marked her face with tattoos.
