Not what is used to be - I have been hesitating writing this review. It has been over a year since I vacationed on Bequia (my 11th time) I usually stay 4 to 6 weeks, Bequia is not a lost paradise any more. What was once an oasis of charm, peace and tranquility has changed in the last few years, Cruise ships dropping of 3000 people on the island has utterly ruined the island. Although the ships do not stop every day when they are there the island is overrun with cruisers. They take up all the bars, restaurants and beaches and leave those of us who are staying without food and drinks in the evenings. Takes days to resupply these items. The island is just not prepared for the massive numbers of cruise passengers. Hotels are booked in advance. Do not arrive without a reservation and be sure to have a written confirmation from the hotel. The people who live on the island are the nicest people I have ever met, making you feel welcome. The beaches are wonderful, and food is good (when available). Stay away from the town and beaches on cruise days. I remember Bequia when it was paradise.
