Highlights
  • Kochi (Cochin) - Discover the renowned Kerala backwaters of Alleppey aboard a traditional houseboat. Alleppey, also called Alappuzha, is nestled between the Arabian Sea and a network of rivers that flow into it. In the early 20th century, Lord Curzon, the then Viceroy of the Indian Empire, was so captivated by its scenic beauty that he proclaimed Alleppey as “The Venice of the East.”

After being picked up from Cochin Cruise Port or Cochin Hotels, you’ll be transferred to Aleppey to board your houseboat. Drift leisurely through the backwaters and village areas, taking in the lush greenery, paddy fields, coconut palms, and more. While there is no guide on board, a crew of three will be there to ensure your experience is as relaxing as possible. Savor a lunch of Keralan cuisine as you cruise gently, before being transferred back to Cochin Port or your hotel.

  • Jew Town - We will make a stop at this historic town.

Relaxing boat ride with amazing lunch - The boat ride itself was very idyllic and relaxing, with a good of the slow lifestyle along the backwaters. The boat was also surprisingly stable and did not create any problems at all for someone with motion sickness. The staff on the boat was also very hospitable, and prepared an amazing meal. Tourists from Kochi need to take note, though, that the car drive may take about 2h+ each way (if traffic is as we've encountered) from your hotel to Alleppey. Other than the length of the car drive (which we have to commend the driver for his focus and driving skills), all was good.

I’d say this is a must do on Cochin - The tour guide was very knowledgeably and explained everything well. The houseboat was very well kept and the cooks did a fabulous job with the authentic food. The bus was very comfortable.

Great Value and service - Excellent alternative to the overpriced cruise ship tours. Met promptly, comfortable coach with expert and good humoured guide. The backwaters are a relaxed and tranquil escape from the exciting chaos greeting you in India's cities and towns. Good food and excellent service on the boat. The party size was very comfortable due to some last minute cancellations. Its worth checking party size when booking as these are just what they say "Houseboats" and have 2 or 3 cabins a dining room and a kitchen as well as the deck area where you spend most of your time on your trip, so any more than 16 - 20 people and the area may be too crowded to be enjoyable, depending on the boat configuration. The trip from the port is about 2 hours as the main roads are currently undergoing major upgrades. The operator took all this into account and ensured we got the advertised time on the boat and returned to port in good time. All in all, a great trip and excellent service throughout.

Nice backwaters experience - The boat ride was very enjoyable. The backwaters are tranquil and quite scenic. Johnny and his crew were very professional and receptive to our needs. The food was excellent. Only problem was the pick up from our hotel. The driver picked us up at our hotel about an hour late. 9.30 instead of 8.30. Fortunately, I called while waiting to find out that he picked up wrong passengers from another location. Except that annoying glitch, it was an enjoyable trip.

Unique houseboat - It took us over two hours by coach to get the Backwater, Alappuzha. If you are living inland, it is worthy to experiece the canal cruise. The houseboat is very unique, clean and the food is good.

Horrible experience - The tour was not as described. We did not have lunch at a resort or even visit a resort. Lunch was on the boat, which was not air conditioned. We did not see fort kochi or the Chinese fishing nets on the way back but instead they took an alternative route to go to an overpriced souvenir shop, saying the road to those attractions was closed, even though several others with similar itineraries from the ship and elsewhere visited them that day. The owner tried to charge $70 more than the trip to my mother’s card, by putting it in Indian rupees and we had not done the conversion, fortunately the card was declined. We brought up the concerns to the owner, who said Indians don’t like to pay for things and I found his racism toward his own culture appalling. The tour guide lacked professionalism and lied saying I wanted to go to that overpriced souvenir shop, even commenting that I had an extra piece of fish and now I’m complaining to avoid payment. Much better to go with another company, as it leaves a bad feeling communicating with these men, who could care less about your happiness. With all this, I offered to pay for one admission and they self righteously declined saying that they will not sell to Indians because they lack empathy for the locals. Very bad experience.
