While commonly known as “Chinese fishing nets” in India, the more formal name for such nets is “shore operated lift nets”. Huge mechanical contrivances hold out horizontal nets of 20 m or more across. Each structure is at least 10 m high and comprises a cantilever with an outstretched net suspended over the sea and large stones suspended from ropes as counterweights at the other end. Each installation is operated by a team of up to six fishermen. While such nets are used throughout coastal southern China and Indochina, in India they are mostly found in the Indian cities of Kochi and Kollam, where they have become a tourist attraction. This way of fishing is unusual in India and almost unique to the area, as it was introduced by Chinese explorers who landed there in the 14th century. Fast and furious! - Everything we expected of a Tuk Tuk tour. Met by a driver at the port entrance and commenced a thrilling four hour journey round Cochin. Blimey those Tuk Tuks can get into tiny gaps! We saw all the major sights of old Cochin but to be honest it was a little underwhelming. If we had done this tour as a coach trip we would have been disappointed! Only niggle (which we expected) was the stop off at brothers/uncles/random relatives shop for souvenirs.

Nature and fun wrapped in one package - Both the rickshaw ride and boat cruise was equally exhilarating. It's an experience not to be missed, filled with breathtaking scenery, natural wonders and friendly guides. Our guide Ashku made it all the more fun with his bubbly personality and his discotheque auto.

Wrong country - We booked this the night before we docked in Kochi Japan . We realised something was wrong when we were waiting dockside to be picked up when we found out it was kochi India . We put in kochi Japan at time of booking nowhere in the discription of the trip did it say India . Although Viator is looking into seeing if we can get a refund as it is now two days later and we haven’t heard from them I guess we have lost the money . Where there are identical named places they should have the country there in prominent in the discription .

Not Good experience for an exorbitant charge used one Auto -Rickshaw and charged for two - I could not have my trip intention as a person who belongs to Kerala itself. I was charged for two members for an Auto-Rickshaw. As a standard practice in Kerala, there is no fare difference between single or double passengers. But I was surprised by your pattern of charging two member fees in an auto-rickshaw even though I paid all other charges including water. Overall a Bad experience.
