Highlights
  • Chinese Fishing Nets - Chinese fishing nets (Cheena vala) are a type of stationary lift net in India. They are fishing nets that are fixed land installations for fishing. While commonly known as “Chinese fishing nets” in India, the more formal name for such nets is “shore operated lift nets”. Huge mechanical contrivances hold out horizontal nets of 20 m or more across. Each structure is at least 10 m high and comprises a cantilever with an outstretched net suspended over the sea and large stones suspended from ropes as counterweights at the other end. Each installation is operated by a team of up to six fishermen. While such nets are used throughout coastal southern China and Indochina, in India they are mostly found in the Indian cities of Kochi and Kollam, where they have become a tourist attraction. This way of fishing is unusual in India and almost unique to the area, as it was introduced by Chinese explorers who landed there in the 14th century.

At this Laundry facility, the washing of clothes is performed in the old traditional way - manually by hand. This manual method of cleaning clothes has not changed for centuries at Dhoby Khana. The place is a coop laundry with a building set for ironing laundry, another with “cells” containing a concrete wash basin and a slab to slap the fabric during cleaning, and then a field of clothe lines. Each worker gets to set his own clothe line made of braided coir fiber. The strands are opened to set the clothes on the line without using pins. Everything is done by hand here and it is hard work. The establishment started in the 18th century during the Dutch rule for their military in order to wash military uniforms. The ancestors of the workmen belongs to Tamilnadu. Best tour in Cochin! - My family and I had a wonderful and culturaly rich experience on this tour. Sudheer and Vinu are fun to drive trough the city. They had a lot of small details to mention during the tour. But what made the tour an outstanding experience was the hospitality of Sudheer and Vinu. They catered to all our wishes and needs. 10/10 would recommend! Thanks again for the fun day!

Fast AND safe - My tuk tuk driver Sudheer got me quickly and most importantly safely to the airport when (sadly) it was time to leave Kochi. He was right on time for the pre-arranged pick up and, as usual, very gentlemanly throughout. Thanks, Sudheer!

Firoz is the best tuktuk guide driver to visit Kochi - Excellent and honest guide!! ! Best way to see Kochi and learn the ins and outs! My husband and I had Firoz for most of the morning for 2 days. Covered a lot of sites and great way to see Kochi. If you have time, don't hesitate to go to the shop he suggests. He very frankly told us that he gets a litre of petrol if you go in the shop to just browse whether you buy or not. I ended up buying s beautiful jacket at reasonably good price. Highly recommend him!!

Fort Kochi, a memorable experience. - The best way to get around and see the city, driven by locals who know every corner. Our driver, Babu, was one of the kindest, friendliest and most informative people we met anywhere in India and the whole experience left us with good feelings and a strong desire to return. Thank you so much.

Friendly professional Tuk-Tuk driver - Competition is tough in Kochi. I chose Sudhi to show me the city and its surroundings for a day. He is friendly, professional and speaks English very well. He does not encourage consumption, he is honest. He asked me what I liked the most, which allowed him to focus his approach and his comments. During the visit, he gave me general information but also more personal details about the people's way of life and the country's economy. It was much more enriching than the generic speeches that some guides can have. I also appreciated his kindness and his involvement. As he drives carefully, I then called on Sudhi when I needed a taxi during the other 3 days I was in Kochi.
