Additional Information

Explore the hidden depths and uncover the mysteries and folklore of Wieliczka Salt Mine, a gem in Poland’s cultural heritage. To date, it has welcomed more than 40 million intrigued visitors from across the globe and earned a spot on the UNESCO world heritage list in 1978. As you travel along the tourist path, approximately 20 magnificent chambers await your discovery, along with saltwater lakes, mining equipment, and art pieces showcasing delicate sculptures and reliefs, all crafted from salt by skilled human hands. Knowledgeable licensed guides from the Salt Mine will enrich your journey with tales of the mine’s history and anecdotes about the miners who have toiled there for generations. Prepare for a descent of 800 steps (350 steps to reach 135 metres underground), but rest assured the steps are wide and equipped with handrails. When your underground adventure concludes, a lift will convey you back to the surface.

  • The Salt Mine tour includes 800 steps descending into a depth of 135 meters underground and up to 3 km of winding corridors.
  • The temperature inside the Salt Mine is stable all year long, around 14 degrees Celcius.
  • There is an original miner’s lift to bring you up to the surface.
  • The exit shaft is 500 m away from the one used to enter the mine.
  • Not recommended for travellers with a fear of small enclosed spaces.

Superb - The whole journey from start to finish through the mine was brilliant. We did not expect the refreshments and toilet stop part way through which made for a more comfortable trip. Our guide was excellent, his English was impeccable and his jokes and humour added to the whole experience. The only downside was the long walk back through tunnels from the end of the tour to the lift. When we exited the lift building we had no idea where we were and had another walk back to meet our transport at the starting point.

Amazing have to see it too belive it .... - We would definitely recommend the Salt Mines it was really interesting and unbelievable how hard these people worked all those years ago to create the mine. Our tour guide was very informative and answered any questions people had, and it was great value. You will definitely get your steps in on this trip, but it is certainly worth it! At least your exit is only a short trip in the mine lift....

Great Complement to Krakow City Tours! - Our combined Auschwitz’s + Salt Mine tour got cancelled last minute the night before which was very frustrating but, as we came to understand, the cancellation was probably due to the heavy rains in Central Europe during the week we were here. We were able to book just the Salt Mine tour last minute and it all worked out great. Viktor was an amazing tour operator and driver - as a born and bred local, it was nice to get his perspective on Krakow vs. other Polish cities. We felt very taken care of. The salt mine tour itself was so fascinating in terms of the history, economics and artistry - at ~400 ft below the ground! It was the perfect complementary activity to all of the Krakow city activities. Highly recommend as part of any Krakow trip.

Great tour. A lot of walking - Really interesting trip. Wonderful guide, who was very informative. Amazing chapel. Seniors and families with young kids take note: You start the tour by walking down about 55 flights of stairs and you walk underground for about 2 hours.
