Bayon Temple - The Bayon Temple, or the state temple of Javavarman VII, is one of the world’s most mysterious and powerful religious structures. It features a unique collection of “face towers” that form a stone mountain of ascending peaks. Originally, there were 54 towers, of which 37 still stand today. Most towers are adorned with four faces, one on each cardinal point. The central tower has many more, and nearby temples include Baphoun, Elephant Terrace, and Leper King Terrace. This massive terrace is named after a 15th-century sculpture found atop it.

Conceived by Suryavarman II in the early 12th century, Angkor Wat took an estimated 37 years to complete. Unlike most other Khmer temples, it faces west, likely because it was dedicated to Vishnu, who is sometimes associated with the west. Bakheng Hill, dating from the late 9th century, was the state temple of Angkor’s first capital. The view from the top is stunning, especially of Angkor Wat to the southeast, making it a popular spot for visitors at sunset.

Ta Prohm - Ta Prohm is a temple set amidst the jungle. Wander through the maze-like ruins of this ornate worship site, marveling at the fig trees that threaten to overtake the structure.
