Phnom Kulen is a sacred peak in Cambodia that holds unique religious value to Hindu and Buddhist pilgrims who journey there. It holds a profound place in the hearts of Cambodians as the birthplace of the Khmer Empire. At Phnom Kulen, King Jayavarma II declared freedom from Java in 804 CE. Jayavarman II began the tradition of the king, a linga cult, around 804 CE, marking his liberation from Java. The relief was known as Mahendraparvata (the mountain of Great Indra) during the Angkorian period.
• Note: A fundamental level of fitness is necessary for the 8Km hike, bring a change of clothes for swimming.
