Highlights
  • Sarawak Cultural Village - Situated 35 km and about a 45-minute drive from Kuching towards the northern part of Kuching Damai, this 17-acre “living museum” provides an excellent introduction to the people of Sarawak, their culture, and crafts. The tour includes an award-winning 45-minute cultural performance featuring songs and dances.

Possibly the finest “Living Museum” in Southeast Asia, Sarawak Cultural Village blends history, tradition, lifestyle, and architecture with a touch of education and theatre to create a unique multicultural experience.

Seven distinct traditional houses, spread across a picturesque 17-acre site, offer a perfect introduction to Sarawak, its people, and cultures. Whether you’re interested in the longhouse lifestyle or the vibrant hospitality of Sarawak, the Sarawak Cultural Village is a must-visit for anyone in Kuching and Damai.

The tour begins with a 30-minute drive to Sarawak Cultural Village. The village’s slogan, ‘See Sarawak in Half a Day,’ reflects its unique, award-winning status as a living museum that provides an excellent introduction to local cultures and lifestyles. The 48,000 square miles of Malaysia’s most majestic state are condensed into just 17 acres. A leisurely stroll through the village reveals seven homes, each representing a different culture, including the famous longhouses of Borneo. Known as SCV, the village showcases the seven major ethnic groups of Sarawak: Iban, Bidayuh, Penan, Orang Ulu, Melanau, Malay, and Chinese. Each house is an exact replica of traditional dwellings, complete with authentic wood, landscaping, and carvings. Each building has a “storyteller” who is an expert in describing and interpreting traditional cultures and lifestyles and will happily pose for photos. The village also features daily multicultural dance performances in its own theatre.

Nice place - Hey, I was a bit skeptical as much of it is under renovation, people were very welcoming and wanted to tell me everything, and everything turned out to be positive, especially when a fantastic show, which is on twice a day, came on, 40 degrees, not much energy, then you enter a huge showroom with nice seats and air conditioning, keep it up, it's worth everything, money well spent

Sarawak Cultural Village and Show a must-see - We travelled less than an hour from the city on the Cultural Village Tour with an experienced local driver - it was one of the highlights of our trip to Kuching. We learned about the different tribes and longhouses for each, with welcome dancers and music each time we entered. There was cooking in some, handcraft exhibitions in some, and it is always interesting learning about how different cultures have lived. To finish off, the joint performance in the main hall from each of the longhouses was beautiful and brilliant, seated on very comfortable chairs with all the lights, music and entertainment of a world-class event. Definitely include the Sarawak Cultural Village on your agenda.

The cultural show was... - The cultural show was very entertaining and enjoyable. The staff doing the demonstrations for crafts (like blow pipe making) should be more active though.
