Sloth’s Territory - Sloth’s Territory is a private reserve located in El Tanque, less than 10 minutes away from La Fortuna downtown (Arenal Volcano).
The place, managed by the Rodriguez Perez Family, it’s a truly gem with vibrant flora & fauna.
The observation hike, a truly enigmatic experience is developed through a safe path. this trail runs the reserve along La Havana River, and offers the opportunity to observe many kind of animals in it’s natural habitat.
Two & three-toed sloths, opossums, red frogs, porcupines, different kind of birds such as; Toucans, Tanagers, Royal Flycatchers, Hummingbirds, Parrots, Honeycreepers, Cinnamon Woodpeckers, enrich the activity.
Our expert guide will carefully show you, all our different attractions and will give you through a unique lifetime experience.
The tour includes a trained guide during the whole hike with professional telescope and it finish with a break to enjoy our more selected seasonal fruits (most of them from our organic field).

Nestled in El Tanque and not more than 10 minutes from La Fortuna downtown (Arenal Volcano), Sloth’s Territory is an exclusive wildlife preserve. The Rodriguez Perez Family operates the reserve, which is adorned with diverse plant and animal life. Visitors are treated to a fascinating sightseeing trek that follows a safe trail. This pathway goes through the heart of the reserve by the La Havana River, presenting opportunities to see a wide array of animals in their natural surroundings. Various creatures such as two and three-toed sloths, opossums, red frogs, porcupines, and an assortment of birds including Toucans, Tanagers, Royal Flycatchers, Hummingbirds, Parrots, Honeycreepers, Cinnamon Woodpeckers grace the environment. Led by our knowledgeable guide, you’ll discover all our unique sights and enjoy an unforgettable journey. The guided hike includes telescope access and ends by relaxing and relishing specially chosen seasonal fruits from our organic field.

Sloth watch - Neifryn was absolutely amazing. He made sure to tell us about each of the animals that we saw. He is very knowledgeable gave use lot of information, very nice and friendly.

Wow— amazing experience with many sloth sightings - Amazing sloth watching tour in an absolutely gorgeous location. Our guide was experienced, friendly, and went above and beyond to point out all the sloths and use his telescope so we could see them up close. And there is NO way we would have ever seen on our own. We even saw a mama and baby howler monkey which was a bonus and apparently less common to see. It was a wonderful experience. Thank you, Edson!

Ruben was amazing - Ruben was an amazing guide that helped us see many sloths (we don’t remember the exact amount but we think it was 7) along with a lot of other cool creatures, including many dart frogs and a beautiful toucan. It was raining most of the time and that didn’t affect how great our tour was, would highly recommend this to anyone who wants to see some sloths!

Great Sloth Seeing Tour - Our guide was friendly and well-informed. We saw 1) multiple sloths, 2) multiple poisonous frogs, so small, 3) salamanders, 4) and a CAIMAN!!

A true natural sloth habitat - We almost got caught at the busy roadside tour but stumbled on this one instead. Our guide Ed was extremely knowledgeable and helped us get great videos and photos of the sloths. We also saw poisonous dart frogs, birds and interesting plants. Included are a few hanging bridges and fresh fruit. Be sure to get a coffee or smoothie from the Dumpy Sloth before or after your tour. Bug spray and closed toe shoes are a must.

Great tour if you want to see sloths - After going to Bogarin Trail, I was disappointed on the sloth watching in the area thinking they were all like that one. I’m glad we tried Sloth’s Territory. We got to see about 8 sloths, walk by a river, cross 2 hanging bridges and the sloths were not too high up. A baby one was on a mango tree! The tour ended with a plate of pineapple and watermelon that were delicious! Highly recommend this one.

Fantastic Learning Opportunity - My husband and I took the tour with David. David was extremely knowledgeable about all kinds of wildlife along the tour not just the sloths. He helped us find 5 sloths and a group of howler monkeys. David answered all our questions and gave us information along the way. The tour was a beautiful walk through the property and the fresh fruit at the end was excellent.

Amazing tour for young and old! - We had Jason who was spectacular! We had a 7 and 3 year old who greatly enjoyed seeing sloths. Jason had a scope and was able to ensure everyone could see, he provided a lot of information regarding sloths and other animals. Highly recommended!

You will see sloths and... - You will see sloths and it will likely be hot. Be aware the booking rescheduling policies are challenging even if you are 15 minutes late due to an unplanned flat tire. Not at the same level as other experiences we had in the area.
