Sloth’s Territory - Sloth’s Territory is a private reserve located in El Tanque, less than 10 minutes away from La Fortuna downtown (Arenal Volcano).
The place, managed by the Rodriguez Perez Family, it’s a truly gem with vibrant flora & fauna.
The observation hike, a truly enigmatic experience is developed through a safe path. this trail runs the reserve along La Havana River, and offers the opportunity to observe many kind of animals in it’s natural habitat.
Two & three-toed sloths, opossums, red frogs, porcupines, different kind of birds such as; Toucans, Tanagers, Royal Flycatchers, Hummingbirds, Parrots, Honeycreepers, Cinnamon Woodpeckers, enrich the activity.
Our expert guide will carefully show you, all our different attractions and will give you through a unique lifetime experience.
The tour includes a trained guide during the whole hike with professional telescope and it finish with a break to enjoy our more selected seasonal fruits (most of them from our organic field).

Nestled in El Tanque and not more than 10 minutes from La Fortuna downtown (Arenal Volcano), Sloth’s Territory is an exclusive wildlife preserve. The Rodriguez Perez Family operates the reserve, which is adorned with diverse plant and animal life. Visitors are treated to a fascinating sightseeing trek that follows a safe trail. This pathway goes through the heart of the reserve by the La Havana River, presenting opportunities to see a wide array of animals in their natural surroundings. Various creatures such as two and three-toed sloths, opossums, red frogs, porcupines, and an assortment of birds including Toucans, Tanagers, Royal Flycatchers, Hummingbirds, Parrots, Honeycreepers, Cinnamon Woodpeckers grace the environment. Led by our knowledgeable guide, you’ll discover all our unique sights and enjoy an unforgettable journey. The guided hike includes telescope access and ends by relaxing and relishing specially chosen seasonal fruits from our organic field.

Fantastic - We had a lovely tour! We learned so much from our guide. We never would’ve spotted sloths without our guide!! We also saw a howler monkey. The hike was not bad, even with our 8 and 11 year old (and they’re straight yuppie children).

Great guide - Our guide, Ruben, was fantastic. He was super knowledgeable and you could tell he was passionate about the sloths and their preservation in their natural habitat. It was a pretty hot hike but the paths are paved and not a difficult walk at all. We saw many sloths. Make sure to wear closed toed shoes!

Loved this tour - This tour was great. We saw many smiths, a mom and baby, poison frogs, a howler monkey, and a toucan on our tour. Our guide was very knowledgeable and passionate about the forest and animals who live there. The kids loved tour and the guide did a great job including them and helping them see the animals. He brought a scope to see the animals better and took pictures with our phones through the scope so we could get great photos. 10/10 recommend this tour. It was hot and so humid so the fest fruit ready for us at the end was refreshing.

Amazing Tour!! - Complete Natural Habitat home of Sloths, Toucans, Frogs & Iguanas (monkeys at times too!) OUR Guide was awesome, spoke English very well, and found us several 2-toed & 3- toed Sloths AND we saw A LOT of Toucan action!!

Amazing seeing the sloths - This was a great experience. We saw at least 6-7 sloths and a howler monkey with a baby. Our guide was fabulous! He took pics and videos through his magnified lense for me and came out great. He was so patient and knowledgeable! Highly recommend this tour!!

Must do! - Great tour! One of the best I have experienced in Costa Rica! Our tour guide, Jason, was incredibly knowledgeable and shared many good stories about sloths. Thanks to his sharp eyes we were able to see so many sloths, even moms with babies.

Amazing Sloth Viewing - Jason our guide had an amazing eye and spotted multiple sloths for us. He took great pictures on our phones through the observation scope. He was very informative and helpful in identifying animals and plants. The fruit after was delicious and refreshing. The facilities were clean and well kept. We also got to see bonus bunnies at the ranch.

Amazing! - We loved the sloth tour! We learned so much and saw so many sloths! We also saw toucans, crocodiles and lizards. Our tour guide was incredible, I really can’t remember his name but I think it was Jason. He helped us capture video and photos.

A must see! - David was an excellent guide! He really took the time to answer any questions the group had and also to ensure each individual had the best opportunity to see the sloths and other wildlife such as frogs, turtles and birds. Cannot thank David enough!

Did not disappoint!! - Did not disappoint!! Our guide, Jason was phenomenal, he was a wealth of knowledge on not only sloths but the entire eco environment of the region. He also knew exactly where to look for animals and we came away with AMAZING photos and videos.
