Highlights
  • Barracuda Biking Company - We meet at 7:30am to begin our once in a lifetime journey. We hop aboard our private transport en route to La Cumbre at 4700m. Once there, we get all our gear (helmets, gloves, knee/elbow pads, pants/jacket) and our top of the line bikes (Kona Full Suspension bikes with hydraulic disk brakes). Our bikes are maintained after every ride and we have over 100 bikes in our shop, ensuring you will get a bike that has been serviced and is adequate to your height. Also, the brakes are on the side you want them (different countries use different sides for the front/rear brake and you wouldn’t want to grab the wrong brake because it’s not set for your country). Our guides have an average of 10 years experience guiding on this incredible road. They give you detailed instructions before we start the ride to help keep you safe and comfortable on our descent. After our safety induction, we begin our ride. The first 24km of the ride are on the tarmac, this is a great chance for you to get a feel for your bike and the brakes and if you’re up for it get some speed. The incredible andes show their splendor as we wind our way through this spectacular valley, taking small stops to catch the views and so the guides can explain upcoming sections. Eventually we arrive at Unduavi where every rider has to pay a road tax. Here we load up our bikes and do a big uphill on the bus.

The bus arrives to the top of the old road, known as Death Road. Your guides will give you a safety briefing and check all the bikes. The barren snow capped mountains we have passed by are long gone and we are now in the incredible cloud forest. We literally start above the clouds, then ride through and out of them into the lush jungle.

The last 40km of our ride are out of this world, as we curve our way down an incredible road carved out of the side of the andes, passing through waterfalls, rivers, small communities, down, down, down to the steaming jungle. The views of the valley are breathtaking and the rush of adrenaline and pure fun are incomparable. We have several stops along the way to take in the views and for our safety briefings. This is important so that you know about any corners or tricky sections of the road before you arrive and so that the guides can answer any questions, tell some jokes and give you some of the fascinating history of this road. We stop twice to refresh ourselves with a well earned snack and there is unlimited water provided during the ride.

We end the ride at our jungle refuge where we enjoy a delicious buffet, a dip in the pool and relaxation. There are also hot showers and soap/shampoo/towels for you. After relaxing and celebrating our amazing ride, we hop in the bus for our 3.5 hour ride back to La Paz, where we will be dropped off near our hotels.

Many people say this is the best experience of their south America trip, make sure you do it safely with a reputable company who focuses on giving you an amazing ride.

One of our favourite day trips ever - Marcelo was the best guide, taught me how to ride as safely as possible (I was a bit scared until he looked after me). He taught us so much much about the social and environmental aspects of the areas we were passing. This is one of the best day trips we have ever been on, so many microclimates and varied views in one fun day. Food, drinks and shower were good. Guillermo was a great driver, followed us down the hill to provide food, drinks and access to bags, along with access to additional safety gear if required. He also got us around in great time.

Safe and great - My partner and I went on the Death Road tour on 30th July with Remy and Luis and we had a fabulous time. Remy and Luis did a fabulous job of keeping everyone safe and ensuring we all had the best day possible. The bikes and equipment were all really great and the tour ran seamlessly. Would highly recommend Barracuda and Remy and Luis to anybody wanting to bike Death Road. Thank you :)

The best experience on the Death Road! - We had a really great day! The road is beautiful and frankly nice to go down. The bikes were really perfect and our two guides, Gustavo and Caesar were really top! Very clear explanations, accompaniment of each of the participants, whether they are a little scared or want to have a little more technique... frankly the best guides!

A trip to make! - Super well organized and safe descent! Our guides were great (especially Remy Conde) It takes a minimum of endurance, because difficult on the forearms and hands Little tip: take your own pictures, as those of the guide are taken with an old camera and ask without the t-shirt to save some $ A trip to make!

Once in a lifetime! - Wonderful experience, perfect for adrenaline hunters. The team at Barracuda are really amazing, Remi and Luis made the experience both amazingly fun and totally safe. They are also by the far the most cost effective. Would do it again if I had the time. Thanks guys!

Aurélie - I had a lot of fun with Remy and the crew of Barracuda Biking ! The security of the group was always a priority and all the dangers are well explained beforehand. I highly recommend the experience ! The late lunch was really good, and a well-deserved swim in the pool in the jungle was a plus ! Thanks !

Adventure with respect and safety - Barracuda respects and gives very precise instructions to your group, so as to give us a fun, light and exciting experience. Notice that there are few agencies authorized by the government to make that walk. Pay attention to better enjoy! Many thanks to Remy and Alvaro for all support and shared knowledge!
