Additional Information

Huayna Potosi (6,088 meters or 19,974 feet) stands out as one of the Cordillera Real’s most stunning peaks in Bolivia, renowned for its eternal ice caps and breathtaking panoramas, prominently observable from La Paz.

There’s plentiful information suggesting the mountain is easy to ascend; nevertheless, caution is imperative because while being ‘well-known’, all climbing activities carry inherent dangers. Acknowledging the significance of acclimatization is key to success on such endeavors.

The technical demands of this peak are relatively modest; in fact, Huayna Potosi ranks among the more approachable Bolivian mountains thanks to the well-developed support structure, including established base camps and designated advanced stations.

An experience for life with a great agency - The agency is amazing! Amazing and very helpful stuff, the guide of the trip is very experienced and explains everything you need and also you can ask everything (in Spanish). Only the mattresses in the Refugios could be exchanged as the are totally laid flat. The food (vegetarian in my case) was good and delicious! Overall an amazing experience! ❤️🏔️🇧🇴

Perfect experience with guide Felix Tincuta - Perfect experience climbing Huayna Potosi with guide Felix Tincuta. It was the first time climbing with crampons and ice axe, and Felix taught me a lot. He was also very attentive and took great care of me during the climb, always asking me if the pace suited me. Thank you very much Felix, I recommend you 100%!

Fabulous Bolivia Adventures! Be you prepared to be amazed! - We had a fabulous time on this ‘ jeep’ trip.!! (we were in a very comfortable vehicle) There was a lot of driving but we covered a lot of ground and I really feel we got to see the Southern part of that country. Besids visiting the featured lagoons and geysers, which were absolutely amazing, I learned a lot about many aspects of this country Including the geology, many of the plants, animals, birds, and history of the country. Our guide, Abraham and our driverZenon, were unbelievably competent, hard-working and helpful. They went way beyond the call of duty and took excellent care of us. They showed us what a Beautiful Pl., Bolivia is. I highly recommend this company and these awesome employees to anyone if they really want to see the country and learn about this place. Thank you for the educational adventure! Cathy BYARS

Abraham and Zenon are amazing guide and driver!! - What a fantastic 3 day adventure. First the salt flats and so much more then the crazy driving to all the wonderful lagoons and hot spring and finally the rock valleys and Dali’s dessert. Zenon had his bag of tricks and was a safe driver. Abraham was so patient and informative. We felt so spoiled by everything. Thank you so much!! Highly recommend !!!

Awesome trip! - The tour was amazing. The entire company was very well run, efficient and good value. All the guides are top notch and very funny. They like to joke a lot and it makes the whole experience a lot more fun. My guide for the final ascent was Felix. He was an expert. He moved us at the perfect pace to reach the summit at sunset without exhausting us too much! Definitely recommend. The food was incredible too!

Huayna Potosi South Trek - At the beginning of April 2024 I did the 3-day, 2-night tour to the summit of Huayna Potosi. First you try on the equipment in an agency camp. I only had a sweater and sweatpants as warm clothing. For me, the equipment was sufficient in terms of temperature, as the weather was perfect on the day of the climb. However, depending on the weather and the time of year, it is advisable to bring several socks (even thick ones), your own thermal underwear, thinner wind jackets, gloves or similar if necessary. On the first day you practice using crampons and ice axes, on the second day you hike to the high camp at 5,200 m above sea level. At around midnight on day 3 you get up and start the ascent to the summit. There is a passage where you half climb and need the ice axe and the last part is relatively steep. The biggest challenge is the altitude and therefore breathing. The guides from South Trek looked after me very well the whole time. You are particularly well supported on the ascent and motivated when needed. Despite being very cautious about the climb, I felt safe the whole time. No special prior knowledge of the mountain is necessary. However, due to the altitude, sufficient acclimatization is necessary. To do this, research the term altitude sickness and prevent it. I also recommend painkillers in case of emergency. I recommend the tour with Southtrek to everyone. A special thank you to my private guide, Felix, with whom I was the first to reach the summit of the day!!!

Breathtakingly beautiful - How can you describe something so incredible, the moment when you have conquered the 6088m summit? It is simply amazing and I can recommend it to everyone. We had a really great guide without whom I would never have made it to the summit. (Thank you very much) We also booked the Austria Pick & the Esmeralda lagoon (charquini) through South Trek. These were originally intended to help us conquer the Huayna Posi. But the individual tours are also amazing and there is something for every level of fitness. We had enough food on all of our tours, which was very tasty, and superb guides who were also great photographers. 😉 We got all the necessary equipment and important information directly on site and were therefore able to master everything without any problems. Without exaggeration, I would almost describe the relationship as family, because the company was really there for us. Even when we had to postpone a tour twice at short notice for personal reasons, this was absolutely no problem. Communication was always flawless either on site or via WhatsApp. In summary, I can only say that we had no problems and could always rely on the company. Any follow-up questions and follow-up questions were answered immediately. My friend also did the Death Road and was also impressed by the service. I could really write a whole book about how much we enjoyed these tours. We have been on the road for thirteen months and I can say by far that this was one of the best companies. Many thanks to the entire team. This review was really important to me because rarely does everything go so well.
