Highlights

Huaran - We will pick you up early from your hotel to take you to the beginning of the trek at Huaran (9,840 ft) in the Sacred Valley; it is 1 \/ hours by private bus. We will pack the horses and start to walk northward. The trail climbs gently following the Cancha Cancha river towards the community of the same name. On this walk along the river we will see cultivated fields and pass through old Polylepis forests. This type of vegetation is very interesting for a wide assortment of bird life, and the valley itself is very impressive. We will have lunch half way through the hike.

We will pass by the village of Cancha Cancha. on the way to our camp. After a total hike today of around 6 hours we will reach our campsite for the night at Acopata.

Additional Information

This secluded and infrequently explored area provides hikers with an intimate glimpse into conventional Andean existence - an unchanging universe where agriculturists cultivate their crops on the territories their forefathers took care of and supervise flocks of llamas and alpacas below the venerated snow-topped mountains they esteemed as deities. The trail from Lares to Machu Picchu is among the Inca trails from the era of the Inca Empire. At present, Inca descendants who are cultivators, make use of the trail. The Lares Trail establishes a connection between the communities of Cancha Cancha, Quisuarani, Cuncani and Lares with existence in the Sacred Valley. On the final day, we are scheduled to take the evening train to Aguas Calientes, allocating an entire day to discover the Machu Picchu Sanctuary and ascend Huayna Picchu mountain.

  • What to bring for the Lares Trek to Machu Picchu:
  • Original passport (if you have acquired a new one after you made your booking, bring both)
  • Down or synthetic feather sleeping bag (can be rented from us)
  • Clothes (trekking boots, warm fleece jacket, tops, a few t-shirts, socks, sun hat, thermal underwear, light long pants, gloves, poncho, rain jacket)

  • Head lamp
  • Sunglasses and sun hat

Lares Trek Peru - My two sisters and I trekked the four day and three night Lares trek with Action Peru Treks and we were so happy with everything from the time we emailed them until our last day in Cusco. These guys take their job seriously and the main reason we’ve chosen them is because they are an indigenous tour company in Peru. Make you a favor and book your Peru trek with Action Peru. You won’t regret!

Lares Trek - Just returned home after an epic adventure to Machu Picchu. I hiked the Lares trek and this was an amazing trekking experience with Action Peru Treks. We loved every minute of our adventure with our awesome guide, chef and horseman. We did not see any other groups doing this trek which was amazing. I highly recommend Action Peru to anyone who is planning a trek to Machu Picchu.

GREAT LARES TREK TO MACHU PICCHU - The four day and three night Lares trek was an amazing experience. My friends and I were the only ones on the trekking group. We spent 3 days on a trek that ended at Machu Picchu. During our trek we could see many communities of the Peruvian Andes, Alpacas and llamas. This is a challenging trek, especially because of the altitude. Our guide Christian from Action Peru Treks was excellent and very accommodating. We had a chef who provided us nutritious meals for the whole trek and we also had Jorge as our horseman. This was a great alternative to the crowded Inca Trail.

Thank you so much everyone for such a great trek to Machu Picchu.

Extraordinary. Beyond our expectations. - Action Peru Treks. We wanted an extended hike, so, they put two hikes together for us, the Lares Trek for 4 days and 3 nights and the MachuPicchu for 1 more day and night. We were out for 5 days and 4 nights. Then they added a 3 day and 2 nights to the Floating Islands. THANK YOU FOR accommodating our requests! We were blown away. The scenery on the hikes were beyond our expectations. Who knew lamas would be everywhere. Our guide Ronald, and Chef Pancho, were both incredibly talented people. They made an incredible team and gave us an experience of a lifetime. I can't thank you both enough. Ronald has 18 years experience on these hikes, we felt well looked after and safe. Pancho's food was unbelievable. We have no clue how he was able to create such feasts in the middle of nowhere. We thank you both. We were three women in our group, and felt honoured to have such an adventure. THANK YOU! I highly recommend to see Peru with Action Peru Treks. THANK YOU!

Unbelievably personalized attention - We were three women in our 50s and did a 3-day Lares trek followed by a day of trekking toward Macchu Pichu and a morning at the site itself. We had a guide, chef, assistant chef, and porter/horseman with us for the Lares trek, along with 6 horses. I couldn't believe how well taken care of and safe we felt. They went out of their way to ensure we had a wonderful, successful experience. Ronald in particular is a fabulous guide with tons of knowledge and 20 years in the business. The food was amazing - 5 plates of delicious food for dinner! How this was managed on a remote hike remains a mystery... We went in October and it's very cold at night. They provided hot water bottles and an extra blanket which was much appreciated. I highly recommend Action Peru Treks.

We were treated like royal! - My daughter and I did lares trek in Peru with Action Peru Treks in October 2019. I chose the company is by the good reviews from TripAdvisor and my communications through email with the company owner Roxner. Roxner is very patient and easy to communicate. He answered all my questions and concerns during the planning. The view of Peru is marvelous and the experience we had was memorable. When we started lares trek. We were surprised to have such a big crew accompanied with us. Our trekking crew included 1 guide, 1 cowboy who taken care the horses, 2 chefs prepare our meals and 4 horses who carried our stuffs. All of them are so decent nice people especially the chefs and cowboy. They bring warm water to our tent for us to wash. I didn’t feel good to eat. The chef bring warm soup to my tent. All the meals they cooked were delicious. The guide was pretty good overall.... The only thing need to advise is hiking to the top of the mountain is very cold. I think their sleeping bag is not good enough to keep us warm. It was very cold at night. I didn’t sleep well. Overall we enjoyed our time in Peru

Breath-taking Lares Trek - We did the Lares Trek a few weeks ago. The team (led by Lizandro) took care of us very well. We all got high-altitude sickness and the team was very accommodating. I like this company as they’re not as commercial as other ones, and more flexible. Lares Trek is breath-taking and way less crowded than the Inca trail (although one day I’ll want to do Inca trial too!). We’d highly recommend it!

A sick but successful trip - Through no fault by our own, our group became very sick with altitude sickness. Leaking from both ends is no fun. However, struggling through the hike even with a only basic functionality, the team pulled us through to see the wonder of Manchu Pichu. Special thanks goes to the cooking and portage team. We couldn’t have done it without you. An extra special debt is owed to our guide who repaired not only a tear in my trousers in a sensitive spot with string used for tying sacks but also managed to fix my glasses with fishing string. Otherwise things would not have gone that well if I turned up at Manchu Pichu without adequate clothing or the ability to see. Thanks especially for that among other things. Recommend.
