Laxenburg Castle is one of the most impressive castles in Europe and its grounds are considered a jewel in the crown and the heart of the city. The entire area includes castles, houses, caves, temples and water features. An important monument is Franzensburg Castle, which stands on an artificial island in the middle of the castle pond. The castle was built in the early 19th century and its interiors are charming. Inside is a museum known as the “Austrian Treasure House”. Empress Sisi and Emperor Franz Joseph spent their honeymoon at Laxenburg. Later, Crown Prince Rudolf was born here. You can hire a boat or take the panorama train. There are also restaurants where you can try some of the local specialities.
