Additional Information

Le Morne Brabant is a mountain of the south-west of Mauritius, on the peninsula of le Morne. Our team has been the first ever guides in 2004 to bring guests from all over the planet on this majestic rock. Declared World Heritage by UNESCO since July 6, 2008, the site is a sanctuary of the runaway slaves who would have committed suicide by jumping off the cliff of the mountain.

Le Morne Brabant is one of the most preserved and wildest mountains of the island. It is habitat to a very large variety of endemic and narrow-endemic species, such as the rare Trochetia Boutoniana, which is our floral emblem.

Some steeper parts of the ascent will require the use of our hands to progress safely towards the top, where we’ll discover the breath-taking views on the west and south-west lagoons and part of of the island !

The best tour of the Mauritius Islands - We stayed 7 days in the Mauritius Islands and the trail to Le Morne was undoubtedly the best tour we did. I just fell in love with Le Morne, the mountain is very impressive. Despite having a sad story behind it, it's too beautiful. The climb is challenging, with some stretches almost vertical in which you need to hold the stones with your hands to advance, a climb even. Our guide was Gilles and from the beginning he was very attentive. Since the day before, when I was worried if there would be any open place so small to buy water, I sent a message to Gilles to ask and he promptly offered to bring me water so I didn't worry. But on the way I managed to buy cold water and I had no problems with it (there are some bakeries/shops/pharmacies that open early, where the workers of the island will have breakfast). We arrived at the meeting point, Gilles was already waiting for us. We waited a few more minutes until the rest of the group arrived and we drove to the mountain climb. With it, we managed to start the trail through a kind of secret passage, a shortcut to already cut a piece of the path. We followed each at his own pace, and he always worried if everyone was okay. I stopped on the way to show the plant species of the island; we saw red pepper foot and a plant that smells like green apple. When he reached the most critical part, which is the time of climbing, he was telling exactly where it was safest to climb, with guidance on how to climb. That made all the difference. I saw that many people climb the mountain without a guide, but having a person who knows the track well at this time of climbing gave much more security. After all, we reached the top, with a breathtaking view. Really impressive. The only negative point of the track is we can't stay up there long. The desire is to stay hours enjoying the view, but we stayed at most about 10 minutes and we had to get down. There isn't much room up there and there was a lot of people going up, so we had to go down to give room for people going up. The descent also needs a lot of attention, as the rocks are slippery. A lot of people pass the track (from 500 to 700 people every day) and so some stones get loose and end up rolling. And at every moment, Gilles indicated the best path, the best stone to set foot on and the safest place to descend. Always in a good mood, playing and even teaching me a little French! Rsrs Ça va! We had an amazing experience!

Hiking mount brabant - Superb 4h00 hike with extraordinary views. Many thanks to Gilles, our guide for all the explanations he gave us during the hike. In addition, Gilles knows the course perfectly and is very reassuring and professional to bring to the top. Do not hesitate to call on him because the hike is relatively sporty whether for ascent or descent.

Beautiful - Sublime and sporty this hike ends with the ascent of Le Morne with a 360 degree view. We were accompanied by Rowin. Both passionate about his work and his island, he allowed us to do this hike safely and in a good mood. Congratulations to him! Alex, Aurora, Maize and Theo

A must-do if you are in (near) Le Morne! - Very good and nice explanation during the walk and Fred kept a close eye on us getting safely up and down again. He took responsibility for us! And much attention to nature and the beautiful surroundings! You can also go up without a Guide but the extra cost is 100% justified by the way our Guide took the group to the top and back again. No rush and enough breaks to catch your breath and have a drink.
