The mountain of Le Morne Brabant, located on the Le Morne peninsula at Mauritius’ far southwestern edge, is a popular tourist spot and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Although it was listed on the UNESCO World Heritage roster in 2008, the public was not permitted to visit Le Morne Brabant until 2016 after lengthy discussions. Since then, the towering Le Morne Brabant has seen thousands of local and international visitors. In the words of the World Heritage Centre’s Director, Dr. Mechtild Rössler, the opening symbolises a significant stride in boosting the site’s preservation and value.
