Highlights
  • Liberia - This national park encompasses over 14,161 hectares, with a 400 km2 area shaped by the volcanic activity from nine eruption points of the active volcano, featuring a collection of fumaroles and boiling mud pits. It stands as one of Costa Rica’s most ecologically varied parks, hosting approximately 300 bird species and harboring the nation’s largest population of its national flower, the Guaria morada, an exquisite purple orchid. The volcano experienced a significant active phase from 1966 to 1975, with the latest eruptions occurring in 2012. While the volcano remains active, eruptions are infrequent and typically occur on the eastern side, away from our hiking trails. The hike lasts 1 hour and 45 minutes.
After the hike, we’ll take a brief 20-minute round trip to discover the stunning Oropendola waterfall, where you can dive into its remarkable natural blue pool or even jump in for a swim. Once refreshed, we’ll indulge in a delicious traditional Costa Rican buffet lunch. To conclude, we’ll visit the hot springs and partake in a volcanic mud bath.
The national park hiking tour is closed on Mondays

Additional Information

Hot springs volcanic mud- bath - mineral river and pools

The springs that source our hot water river are quite apparent to those who walk the trails along the river’s edge. There is a short segment where perhaps 90% of said hot water beautifully emanates before your eyes, from under giant boulders and from the river floor.

This spot is particularly magical. Our pools, above the canyon floor, get their natural water from 2 artesian wells that access rare, underground rivers with water springs. So you can enjoy completely natural, thermo-mineral water at our deck-side pools.
