Belem and beyond - An in-depth look at the history and politics of the Golden Age, and some of the hidden history of the Sephardic and Moorish people who contributed to Portugal’s greatness. Daniel was an extremely knowledgeable and responsive guide, and went out of his way to provide information, answer questions, and discuss all aspects of Lisbon’s history. I appreciated the opportunity to visit Belem ( and enjoy the famous custard tart from the bakery there) , as well as looking behind the colourful surface of Alfama. I would recommend this tour to anyone with an interest in the politics and history of Portugal, who is looking for more than a glib travelogue

Informative fun overview of Lisbon - Booked this online on travelocity and very happy. Shortly after booking I was contacted by Essencia to confirm details. Our tour guide Vasco Loja met us at our hotel promptly at 9 am. Vasco was incredibly informative, funny and willing to answer all our questions. It is mostly a driving tour but we did walk around Alfama for about an hour. The driving allowed us to truly see the highlights, including Belém ( while we toured the monastery Vasco bought us the infamous custard pastries from Pasteis de Belém). I highly recommend this tour company. Great value for the money!
