Day 1: Lisbon
Upon your arrival in Lisbon, meet your driver at the airport or your hotel and begin your journey with a transfer to your accommodation for the next three nights. Settle in, unpack, and spend the rest of your day exploring the city with your guide.
Marvel at Lisbon Cathedral, constructed in 1150 on the site of an old mosque by Portugal’s first king. Nearby, view the exterior of the Fado Museum, which showcases the history and passion behind Portugal’s renowned fado music. In the Alfama district, visit St George’s Castle (Castelo de Sao Jorge) perched on the city’s highest hill. Learn about the castle’s history, from the ancient Visigoths to the Moors to Portugal’s medieval royalty. From Largo das Portas do Sol, the original Moorish gateway, admire Alfama’s maze of red rooftops and pastel-colored houses from above.
Pause for lunch (at your own expense), then immerse yourself in the bohemian vibe of the Bairro Alto neighborhood and the newly revitalized Cais do Sodré district. Stroll through Lisbon’s many squares, including Restauradores Square, Rossio Square, and Comércio Square. Visit the iconic Tower of Belém and Jerónimos Monastery, both UNESCO World Heritage sites. Learn about the Discoveries Monument, which honors Henry the Navigator, who led Portugal’s 15th-century exploration expeditions into the New World.
Conclude your day with a drop-off at your hotel and enjoy your evening at leisure.

Day 2: Lisbon – Sintra – Cascais – Estoril – Lisbon (L)
Begin with a morning pickup for a day trip to Sintra. Leave the city behind and travel just over 30 minutes northwest to Sintra, nestled against the Sintra Mountains and the scenic Sintra-Cascais Nature Park. A breakfast stop can be arranged at your own expense.
This UNESCO World Heritage-listed town became the first center of European Romantic architecture in the 19th century, featuring royal retreats, estates, castles, and buildings from the 8th century and beyond. With your guide, visit some of Sintra’s most famous landmarks, including Pena National Palace, Castle of the Moors, Sintra National Palace, Queluz National Palace, and Quinta da Regaleira.
Savor a fresh fish lunch at a beachside restaurant, then spend the afternoon exploring the other side of the Sintra mountains. Visit the chic coastal town of Cascais, a former fishing village that became a fashionable resort town after gaining popularity with Portugal’s royal family in the 19th century. In Estoril, see the grand Casino Estoril, the largest casino in Europe, rumored to have been a secret meeting place during World War II. Just west of Cascais, enjoy views over the cliffs of Cabo da Roca and see the dramatic Boca do Inferno cliff formation (Hell’s Mouth). Return to Lisbon in the evening.
Overnight: 3- or 4-star hotel in Lisbon
Day 3: Lisbon – Óbidos – Nazaré – Fátima – Lisbon
Have breakfast at your own expense, then enjoy a morning pickup from your hotel for a full day of exploring the must-see areas near Lisbon.
Your first stop is Óbidos, a fortified village with whitewashed houses and narrow streets that exude a medieval charm. With your guide, stroll through the cobblestone streets lined with colorful houses and Gothic doorways, and visit Óbidos Castle.
See sights such as the town gate and Santa Maria Church, and learn fascinating facts about the village from your guide. You might also visit a local wine shop to sample the traditional Ginja (at your own expense).
Continue your journey through the picturesque Portuguese countryside, stopping at Sítio for stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean and the beautiful beaches. Then, arrive in Nazaré, a vibrant and traditional fishing village. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant (at your own expense), then take a leisurely walk along the beach to soak up the sun and coastal scenery.
With your hunger satisfied, proceed to Fátima, once a quiet rural village that became a significant pilgrimage site in 1917 when three shepherd children reported visions of the Virgin Mary, also known as Our Lady of Fátima (Nossa Senhora de Fátima). With your guide, visit the Chapel of the Apparitions and the Sanctuary of Fátima.
In the evening, return to your hotel and enjoy one more night in Lisbon at your leisure.
