  • Whisky Village - A unique little village on the banks of the Mekong River. Ban Xang Hai, is also known as whisky village, is famous for their handicraft products like distilling and selling whisky, hand woven fabric and jewelry.
  • Pak Ou Caves - These two caves are located some 25km from Luang Prabang where the Nam Ou River flows into the Meking. The journey on a slow moving longboat to caves is decidedly picturesque. The caves are revered throughout Laos and a very popular place for tourists and pilgrimsalike. There are some 4000 statyes abd statyettes in the caves, mostly of the Buddha, many stukk covered with paper thin gilding. The first cave is reached by a steep staircase from the river’s edge, while the second cave is a little deeper inside the mountain: bring a torchilight!

Additional Information

Embark on a day-long excursion to the caves of Pak Ou and waterfalls of Kuang Si. We set off from the Luang Prabang boat pier in the morning. As you glide down the Mekong River, the breathtaking landscape of Luang Prabang will leave you awestruck. We’ll take a detour to the village ‘Ban Xang Hai’, where you’ll get a chance to sample local rice alcohol and rice wine. Following this, delve into the enigmatic cave with a local guide.

Feast on a buffet lunch at a restaurant that offers a stunning view of the Mekong river. Post lunch, we redirect our journey towards the waterfalls, where you can indulge in a refreshing swim in the chilly water. By 5pm, we’ll begin our journey back to the city, making a pitstop at a Hmong village on the way. Experience the Hmong culture firsthand as you interact with the locals dressed in traditional attire and visit their quaint Hmong museum. We’ll arrive at either the city center or your hotel by 6pm.

Alternatively, you can opt for a modified itinerary where the visit to the waterfall is scheduled for the AM and the cave exploration and sunset boat ride are moved to the PM. This variation offers the same activities but in a different sequence.

  • This tour is not hard at all. But it’s about 10 hours full day excursion including a long distance drive (60km). If old people and infants are in your group, please consider to choose 2 days split option or private option

Amazing experience in Kuang Si waterfalls and riding elephants - I had unrepeatable experience visiting one of the most popular places in Luang Prabang. Thanks to Mr Pong I learned a lot about the rich history of Laos. Thus guy really has a sense of humour and entertain our group.

One of a kind experience with Mr Pong - We had an amazing day and the pace was great. The waterfalls are stunning, having lunch at the elephant sanctuary and feeding them bananas is an incredible experience and all of the villages were great to learn about. Cruising down the Mekong river with a beer was a nice refresher to finish the day off. Mr Pong was an amazing tour guide and had a wealth of knowledge to share everywhere we went and really went above and beyond to make sure everyone had a good time.

15 June 2024 - My wife and me had the privilege of having Vone, a knowledgeable and very professional guide to lead us in the one day Mekong tour. Vone is able to provide insights into the various attractions along the way such as the Pak Ou Caves as well as the Laos ethnic village. His sharing has deepened our understanding of Laotian way of life. The highlight of the itinerary was the Kuang Si Waterfall. The active & undergoing efforts to rescue bears from bile farms is remarkable. The natural beauty of Kuang Si resides as beautiful memories for my wife and me as we both love waterfalls. Thank you Vone for everything and I would strongly recommend Vone as a guide if u need an excellent guide.” Joe, Singapore.

Great experience - A great experience with lots to see and do. Mr. Pingphong, the guide, was a main highlight worth mentioning - with his sense of humour, knowledge and support. The trip involves quite a lot of travel in a mountainous terrain and my daughter was car sick a few times. Mr. Phong took her to the front of the minibus and helped her with patience and care. Kop chai der, Mr. Phong!

Relaxing slow boat, nice lunch, fantastic waterfall - The slow boat up the river was relaxing. We stopped at a Rice wine whiskey making village. It was ok. Lunch was good. I’m unsure about the caves. Honestly I thought they were not very good. If you are Buddhist they probably mean something to you, otherwise I would give them a miss. The waterfall is fantastic. Great to view and lovely to swim in. There are small fish which nibble at your feet. I also did the Zip Lining at an extra cost which was awesome
