Highlights
  • Le mura di Lucca - You will meet your guide just outside the train station and in a few steps you will see the majestic city walls which represent the pride of Lucca. After a brief historical introduction we will be on the top of the fortification ready to enjoy a short relaxing stroll along the tree-lined boulevards, while you listen to the anecdotes of the town and admire beautiful landscapes.
  • Lucca’s Duomo (Cattedrale di San Martino) - Our walk moves down to the city centre discovering the medieval fascinating narrow alleys that lead us to the magnificent Romanesque marble Cathedral. You will get to know interesting stories and the meaning the people from Lucca give to them just before heading into the charming Napoleon square aligned by secular sycamores. This square plays an important role for the city, today as in the past, hosting the Lucca Summer festival event every July.
  • San Michele in Foro - After this pleasant stroll you will experience our first foodie stop near the popular San Michele Square; we will visit a friendly bakery attended by locals who come here to enjoy a drink and try a piece of cecina, a kind of focaccia made with “mysterious” ingredients.
  • Via Fillungo - The lively shopping street of Via Fillungo is very close on our Lucca walk and you will find out with your guide some of the most elegant artisan parlours in town. Fashion, leather, local food and wine and perfumes - this could be the perfect moment to get familiar with some authentic souvenirs to pick up from your Tuscan trip. In the middle of the road, you can also admire the Romanesque San Frediano Church.
  • Piazza Anfiteatro - Our tour will lead us then to explore Lucca’s most authentic public area, the Amphitheatre. The square, ingeniously created on top of a Roman amphitheatre. Afterwards, dive into the past as your guide shows you Lucca’s most famous symbol, the iconic Guinigi tower, very famous for the trees placed on the roof terrace.
  • Torre Guinigi - You can’t become a real Italian for a day if you don’t take part in the traditional aperitivo ritual in town. Your guide will teach you where and how people from Lucca like to enjoy a glass of wine and some delicious snacks. We will stop at a glamorous Vineria located in a fascinating place and you will finally relax during the sunset awaiting for the wine and food of the day. Here we’ll say ‘arrivederci’ to you, but the night is not over, don’t forget to ask your guide for some tips on nightlife. Salute!

Would highly recommend - Antonella was a fantastic guide - so kind, knowledgeable and friendly. She gave us interesting information on the history of Lucca and took us to the main churches and piazzas. We got to try some delicious local food and wine in 2 places and Massagli in a pharmacy! Antonella also gave us some great tips about where to try gelato, cecina and dinner. We tried some of them today and were so impressed - we would never have found them ourselves. We would highly recommend this tour! Thank you Antonella!

Warning: Lucca might become your favorite Italian city - Antonella was a delightful guide, sharing her pride in her hometown city of Lucca. We learned so much about the history, art and architecture, and local delicacies. 3 stops for refreshment were perfect - we didn’t need dinner (we might have missed an opportunity there :) ). Wonderful host, great tour!

Wonderful way to get to know Lucca - Our guide Luca was the best. We were a bit surprised that we were the only two people for the tour that evening. Turned out it was perfect. Luca shared so much history and information about Lucca. He was so personable and easy to be with. The food and wine stops were great. We would highly recommend this tour especially if you are new to Lucca. We did it our first evening and it made enjoying Lucca so much better.

Awesome and friendly tour - Fun and educational tour with Luca yesterday. Tour was very fascinating and also relaxing. Different than other tours that can be a bit long and boring. Luca was great and there were only four of us on the tour. It was as if we were guided by a friend of a friend who was sharing his town and its history with us. We covered a lot of the city while stopping twice for a glass of wine and appetizers - cheese, salami, mortadella, bruschetta etc. In addition to explaining the history and points of interest he also explained current Italian culture. Great tour. Highly recommend.

Great overview of Lucca - Sara was a great guide for Lucca. The tour was just about the perfect length. There were 2 stops for drinks and light snacks, 1 stop would have been enough. The food was a little more adventurous for most in our group but was great to sample.
