Upon arrival at the American Cemetery, located just outside the city, you will be greeted by the solemn tranquillity of this sacred site. As guests enter through the gates, they will see the impressive Memorial Chapel encompassed by a stone terrace directly in front of them. The cemetery serves as the final resting place for 5070 service members. Many of them lost their lives in the Battle of the Bulge and in advance to the Rhine River. The cemetery was established in 1944 by the 609th Quartermaster Company of the U.S. 3rd Army. The city of Luxembourg served once as headquarters for General George S. Patton’s U.S. Third Army, and the Luxembourg American Cemetery is now the final resting place of General Patton.
