This grand historical edifice stands unparalleled in Egypt, with nearly every pharaoh, especially from the New Kingdom, eager to etch their legacy into its stones. The site’s original name, Ipet-isut, translates to ‘The Most Select of Places’. The majority of the construction was dedicated to the worship of the sun deity Amon-Ra, his partner Mut, and their offspring Khonsu. The awe-inspiring ‘Hypostyle Hall’ is a vast array of towering pillars. Following your exploration of this remarkable location, you will pause for a meal at a reputable restaurant before proceeding to the Nile’s West Bank to explore the Valley of the Kings. Here, the sepulchers of New Kingdom monarchs were unearthed, intricately adorned with depictions of ancient Egyptian afterlife beliefs and mythology. Your journey continues to the distinctive mortuary Temple of Queen Hatshepsut, also known as El Deir El Bahary, which translates to ‘the northern monastery’, a name derived from a Coptic complex that once stood atop the temple ruins.
