Fun and Facts - Amgad was absolutely fantastic! The entire experience was easy, fun, full of facts, and going at your own pace. Amgad made sure we were taken care of and was very thoughtful in the day planning keeping our 6yo in mind. We learned a lot, had so much fun, and made a ton of memories! Highly recommend!

Reliving ancient Egypt in modern times! - The trip started off with a hotel pick-up at 4 am by the friendly and knowledgeable guide Amgad. Six hours later (it's a long drive, yes) we were at the Karnak Temple to absorb the beauty of this wonder. Simply mind-blowing. This was followed by a delectable lunch and then short boat ride to the west bank of the Nile where we would proceed to the Valley of Kings and the indescribably breathtaking monument of Hatshepsut. As part of the program we also got to visit an alabaster shop, including a guide on how they make the memorabilia and souvenirs, from it. To round off the trip we had a longer boat trip on the Nile to soak up the beautiful sunset! And then the drive back felt shorter. Probably because everyone was sleeping from being tired of the excitement of the day! Overall a great trip, with a splendid itinerary. Definitely recommendable!

Louxor tour - The best experience of my life is visiting Luxor. and it would not have been my best experience if I had not met an incredible woman an exceptional guide, Samah Ahmed made us dream with the stories and explanations of our ancestors. He is an exceptional guide and I recommend him to anyone looking for someone to go with him. She knows everything, she is friendly and super smart. in addition to that we took a trip on the Nile by boat, we went to eat in a beautiful place. We are all happy. Thank you again for the most beautiful thing I have seen in my life. I will come back and this time with my parents. Thank you Samah Ahmed.

Extensive Tour of Luxor - The tour was well organised and the guide had lots of knowledge of the history of everything we visited. We had a great day visiting the 4 places and lunch was very good. The only thing was we opted to do tutankhamen chamber in valley of the Kings and felt very rushed as we had to do 4 Chambers in the same time as the others did 3 which we felt pressured, but then took us to a pointless shop to try and get us to buy things in which most of the group was actually waiting for the guide to finish his free coffee. So basically more time at the burial Chambers is a must as only had 45 minutes at this place which was the main event.

Good trip, probably the best you can get in Egypt - This trip was good, much better than trip to Cairo that we did as well. Most of this will be because of the destination – Luxor is a small city positioned on the nile and around it are green fields where Egyptians harvest their crops, so the athmosphere is much better here, the air is better and importantly, you also get to enjoy more sightseeing than in Cairo (which is also a bigger city, with bad air and no green around, just dirt). The monuments in Luxor are plenty and its nice to walk through the temple of Karnak and Hatshpcout temple. Some difference in our experience of Cairo vs Luxor is also due to travel agency – we have been to Cairo with Egyptra Travel and it was bad, we were in Luxor with YourTripsGuide and it was good (and previously we have been with the same travel agency on dolphin trip and it was also very good). Also, the food on this trip was brilliant. However, here are some things they could improve: 1) no covid safety measures – although they had advertised there will be covid safety measures in place (e.g. bus capacity will be limited to 50 %, everyone will be given mask and hand sanitiser, guides will wear masks at all times) and we explicitly asked them in a chat whether they will stick with those rules, they did not in the end. The bus was basically full, no one was offered masks or sanitiser, guides were not wearing masks almost at all. They basically lied to us in the chat. 2) guidance – we had guide called Mimo who was very energetic and much better than guide in Cairo. However, the content of what he was talking about was not that interesting and important – he mostly talked about what does various signs on the monuments mean, how to read them and did not talk about the history enough. When we reflected upon this, it would be better for us if we just downloaded some online voice guide which we would listen while sightseeing instead of follow Mimo and listen to him. If we went on this trip next time, this is what we would do – find and download the online guide before the trip and when entering Karnak Temple (and other monuments), just make arrangement with the guide that we will do the disghtseeing separately and meet them at the entry gate at a given time. 3) pricing – when you pay for the whole trip (which feels already pretty expensive for egyptians standards of living and for the value you’re getting), you kind of expect it is a bundle with everything included. I still don’t understand and not really like that they charge you 10 EUR more during the trip to visit the banana island. You don’t have to pay for that, but then you spend about 1,5 hour in a bus driving around Luxor (which might not be that bad btw, the countryside around Luxor was nice to watch). They should include this in the original price and if needed raise that original price, but the fact that they ask you for extra money for something that feels like a natural part of the trip, after you have spend some significant money on the whole trip already just feels weird and bad. 4) acting in tourists’ interests – as we experienced multiple times in Egypt (and especially in Cairo), the travel agencies put much weight on extracting as much money as they can from you. In this case it was not that bad, but still, between sightseeing, they drove us to some nearby shop where they “showed us how local people make things from alabaster stone” – basically 30 seconds presentation and then 20 minutes time for us to buy things. Almost no one was interested in this and so most people spent these 20 minutes waiting outside the shop or in the bus, waiting until 2 people (out of all the bus) get persuaded to buy some stuff. This part of the programme was not interesting and we felt like they actually acting against our own interests (while being paid by us to do us). 5) departure time – we departured from Hurghada at 5am when the sun was rising. Because the sun was shining the whole journey to Luxor, it was hard to get some extra sleep. If the departure time was a bit earlier - at 3am or 4am, we would be able to fall asleep when there is still dark outside and spend most of the long journey sleeping. We think this trip is approximately the best you can get from egyptian travel agencies. Since we were not completely satisfied with this, we also thought about some alternatives, but there dont seem to be any feasible ones – private tours are much (2-5 times) more expensive and we would not bet that they are better quality, perhaps just fewer people. I would probably also be too complicated to go to Luxor on your own – it is pretty far away from hurghada and we found only one public bus per day doing this journey (though we are not sure whether renting a car could be an option). You would also likely not be able to visit all the places in one day – the programme of the travel agency is pretty packed and since they move around by bus and know their way around, they can keep the programme packed, which you likely couldn’t.

Too many participants! No clear recommendation! - We chose this tour based on the many positive reviews, which in hindsight were not really representative. We booked it through Viator on “Your Trips Guide”. More on that later. When we booked the tour, it was stated that the group consists of a maximum of 15 people (this information was later changed in the description without notification) and that free bottled water is provided (this is still in the description). However, on the day of the tour, there were about 30 people in the group and water was charged extra. During the tour, we were also offered an optional additional trip to a banana plantation with an additional Nile cruise for €10 per person, which is mentioned in the description, but there is an important nuance here (more on that later). The majority of participants chose this, but we did not. Our guide Abdul (who called himself that for convenience, even though his name is Abdel) reacted unkindly to this, and seemed annoyed that we did not choose this option. After that, we were temporarily ignored. After lunch, Abdul approached us again and tried to persuade us in a manipulative way. He argued that all the other participants were on this additional tour and it would make us look bad if we couldn't afford it. This aspect was not relevant to us, but his sales tactics were inappropriate. After this attempt also failed, he tried again after everyone else had chosen the additional tour. This time he claimed that we were only interested in money. We interrupted him and explained that it was not about money, but about our personal preferences (we had already visited a banana plantation in a tropical country). Fortunately, he let it go after that. Another incident did not involve us, but another participant in the group. At the beginning, we were told that we should definitely not follow the souvenir sellers because Abdul would show us where to shop. When a participant nevertheless bought something from a seller, he was criticized in front of the group by our guide Abdul and accused of violating the instructions. Initially, this seemed like a helpful recommendation, as some sellers in Egypt use aggressive sales methods to sell tourists overpriced products. However, it turned out that Abdul received a commission when he directed tourists to certain outlets that were inevitably visited during the tour. Overall, the tour was rather commercial and seemed to be geared towards mass catering, which is unfortunate as it was advertised otherwise. However, there are two positive aspects to mention: Luxor and the tombs were really impressive, and when one participant collapsed due to circulatory problems (not surprising in 38°C), Abdul quickly and successfully provided assistance. Regarding the reviews, in other situations we have experienced reviews being pushed by people standing next to you and already selecting 5 stars while you are typing a sentence. While this did not happen on this tour, it did happen in other restaurants and activities, etc. We cannot judge whether this is common practice at the “Your Trips Guide” agency, but the positive reviews seem odd to us. It's a real shame as this has the potential to tarnish the image of this beautiful country.

Too little information, sales oriented, hurried, animal suffering - - Too little time at each spot, we were rushed by Abdul through the spots - Too little information, focus was on entertainment, ‘nonsense’ and just making a quick picture - Statues of memnon we only got the chance to see from the bus and take a quick picture - Instead of taking time for the headlights, we had to stay for 1,5 hour at a sales spot to buy alabaster (we guess the guide got a nice profit from it) - Extra costs for a useless excursion to a banana plantage with no guidence at all, just a short trip on the nile and seeing animals suffer in too small cages, or in chains. (The people who chose not to do this excursion had to stay in the buss for 1,5 hour!!)
