Valley of the Fallen - Valley of the Fallen is a Francoist regime monument, Catholic basilica and a monumental memorial in the municipality of San Lorenzo de El Escorial, erected at Cuelgamuros Valley in the Sierra de Guadarrama, near Madrid. Franco claimed that the monument was meant to be a “national act of atonement” and reconciliation.
The construction works mainly involved free workers and a smaller, albeit significant, percentage of prisoners, these between 1942 and 1950, under the regime of redemption of sentences.

Great guide - Christina was a wonderful guide. I learned so much with her historical knowledge. The sites were amazing. The bus ride was very comfortable.

Great half day trip - Booked short notice and was able to make it down to the meeting point with plenty of time to spare. Check-in was easy, and after a brief delay with the bus, we were on our way.
Maria is extremely knowledgeable guide and effortlessly transitioned between Spanish and English. She happily answered any questions and posed them again in the other language.
The content of the trip was really interesting. El Escorial is massive, well preserved, and well worth your time. Valley of the Fallen was impressive and tranquil, it was hard not to be reverent.
Having taken a few day trips around Madrid, I think some are ok if they are self-paced. I believe Maria made all the difference with this trip though - her knowledge and delivery added so much color to the day.

Most see Monastery and Valey of the Fallen. - Amazing tour. The Monastery is a MOST see and I think a tour like this from Madrid is a great way to do it.
