This gallery showcases numerous foreign painters who were previously unrepresented: Italian Primitives and Flemish artists, key Renaissance works, and numerous pieces from the Impressionist period, including Monet, Degas, Van Gogh, and Gauguin. It also features significant works from the 20th-century avant-garde movements such as Fauvism, Expressionism, Surrealism, Abstraction, and Pop Art, along with works by two of Spain’s most prominent painters: Picasso and Dalí. The opening of the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum in 1992, in conjunction with the Prado and Reina Sofía Museums, created the so-called Art Triangle on the Paseo del Prado, an area that houses Spain’s most important pictorial heritage.
