Highlights
  • Palacio Nacional de Mafra - The last part of our tour takes us north through the magnificent landscape of the west coast until we reach Mafra. Mafra Convent has inspired several Portuguese writers as our Nobel Prize for Literature (1998) José Saramago. Visit to the church of the imposing Mafra Convent, largest baroque building in Portugal with 4700 doors and windows.
Visit to the palace with your certified guide.
  • Cabo Carvoeiro - Strange rock formations at the “Cabo Carvoeiro” can be admired. This is a Geologic Paradise in Portugal. Short photo stop. If we have clear weather you will see the fabulous Islands of Berlengas.
  • Obidos - Óbidos is known as “Village of Queens”. Once the wedding present to a queen, the preserved medieval town of Óbidos north of Lisbon is without doubt one of Portugal’s most classic walled settlements. Walking the ramparts, visitors can enjoy views of windmills, vineyards and surrounding farmlands.  Here we start an extensive orientation tour and the guests are invited to the famous cherry liqueur “Ginginha taste” too. Some free time.
  • Peniche - Peniche is also a small walled fishing town where the fishing industry is a very important activity. Peniche was an island until the sixteenth century, when silt created a narrow isthmus and is nowadays becoming popular as a surfer’s paradise.
Lunch time in the fishing town Peniche…off the beaten path, a place were portuguese like to eat.
  • Baleal -  Along the way we enjoy this magnificent coastal scenery until we arrive at the fishing village of Baleal, a fusion between land and sea. Stop for you to discover it.

Additional Information

This exclusive journey leads us northward along the breathtaking vistas of Portugal’s west coast until we reach Óbidos. Guided tour and leisure time in the town will be provided. An opportunity to sample Cherry Liqueur for free. As part of the ‘hidden gem’, We will make a pit stop at the peculiar rock formations in Cabo Carvoeiro, Peniche. Another distinctive location is the town of Baleal - an isthmus reaching out into the Atlantic. We will pause here to let you explore the area - a melding of terrestrial and marine environments, unspoiled nature at its finest. Mafra National Palace - one of the biggest edifices in Europe - is a major highlight. We will visit the church within the palace. Even descriptions like ‘huge,’ ‘magnificent,’ ‘immense,’ ‘gargantuan,’ and ‘expansive’ do not adequately capture the enormity of Mafra’s Baroque royal palace. Brief break for lunch where you can indulge in the vintage traditional convent sweets.

Best Boxing Day ever - My son and I pre-booked this day tour for our Boxing Day treat whilst staying in Lisbon. Paulo arrived spot on time at our hotel and off we went in our luxury chauffeur driven car. The places we visited are packed full of history - who knew Portugal had such rich treasures. Our tour guide for the day is a virtual encyclopedia of wondrous information. Thanks Paulo you made our guided tour very special. I learned more in one day about Portugal's Kings, Queens, monuments, castles, medieval walled cities, crops, crime, wine and so much more. I must say one of my favourite stops was at the Obidos shop where you are served the traditional Cherry liquor in a chocolate cup. But wait - you even get a choice of white chocolate or dark chocolate flavoured cup. Delicious and very warming on such a cold day. Visit the house made famous by Lord Byron or just look out to sea at the amazing rock formations along this rugged coast. All is carefully thought out and planned for a wonderful day trip. If you want to beat the crowds this is the only way to do it
