Highlights

High Atlas mountains & fortified village of Ait Ben Haddou

Ait Ben Haddou - The 3-day tour begins in Marrakech, heading towards Ouarzazate. You’ll travel through the Atlas Mountains via the “Tizi-n-Tishka” pass, known for its winding roads. This pass, at an elevation of 2,260 meters above sea level, offers stunning views, mountain streams, and oak and walnut trees. Along the way, you’ll see terraced Berber villages and fields. In winter, the pass is often snow-covered. The journey continues to the Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a popular filming location for movies like Lawrence of Arabia, Gladiator, and The Mummy. At Ait Ben Haddou, you can explore the Kasbah’s walls and enjoy lunch before heading to Ouarzazate, known as the Hollywood of Africa, and then to Boumalne Dades, where the first day ends. The road to Boumalne Dades is called the route of the thousand Kasbahs due to the many fortresses and citadels in the area. Dades, the main gateway to the Dades valley, is a charming and cool town.

Todra Gorges & Erg Chebbi Dunes

Gargantas del Todra - After breakfast, you’ll head towards Toudra Gorges, located about 14 kilometers into the mountains from the town of Tenghir. You can walk through its 300-meter-high canyon walls. Then, you’ll continue to the great southern oases and into the Sahara desert, a place of peace and tranquility. Upon arriving in Merzouga, you’ll ride camels across the vast sand dunes to a desert camp. This will be one of the most exciting and inspiring experiences of your time in Morocco. On the way, you’ll stop to watch the mesmerizing sunset. By dusk, you’ll reach the camp, where you’ll be welcomed with tea, shown your tents, and given some free time. After dinner, there will be a musical evening by the fire, and you can climb the dunes to see the stunning starry sky and shooting stars.

Road back to Marrakech

Rissani - The next morning, you’ll enjoy an unforgettable sunrise, have breakfast, and then ride the camels back. You’ll return to your car and head to Rissani (formerly known as Sijilmasa), the largest oasis in the country, with its adobe Kasbahs and palm groves. It’s worth a stop. From Rissani, you’ll detour about 150 kilometers to the town of Tinghir, passing through a vast area of mountains and acacia trees. You’ll stop for lunch in one of the villages on the way to Ouarzazate. In the afternoon, the trip continues through the Atlas Mountains again before arriving in Marrakech in the early evening.

Hamid Yakoubi speaks Spanish very well. - Hamid Yacoubi Cucus, our guide and driver, has been very friendly and has taught us a lot about the culture in general. The accommodations far exceeded our expectations considering the price. The people who assisted us everywhere were very friendly to the point of becoming friends. The desert also surpassed what we thought. We definitely recommend this experience.

Unforgetable experience - We have done the excursion to the Merzouga desert starting in Marrakech and ending in Fez. The excursion is highly recommended, we have visited some incredible places. We are very grateful to our guide/driver Hamid Yakoubi, who has made this experience even better than we expected, caring about our well-being and enjoyment, all this would not have been the same without a guide like him. Thank you very much for the experience and even more to Hamid for making this something unforgettable in our lives!

Unforgettable three-day trip from Marrakech to Merzouga desert - The truth is that it has been an unforgettable trip. I recommend it to everyone who wants to know the Merzouga desert. Maroc Expedition Travel is a very serious company, and the organization is perfect, everything is under control at all times: hotel, camp, camels, quads... Anything you want... The meals, delicious... The staff, very friendly... The places visited before arriving at the desert, incredible... and the desert, a dream come true: the dunes, the starry sky, the sunrise and the sunset, the drums in the heat of the bonfire... I had read many positive comments, and they were all very, very, very deserved. What can we say about our guide? Hamid Yacoubi started out as our guide and after spending three days with him during the trip to the desert, we have brought a great friend. A great professional: a very good driver, we told him this on many occasions, a very good guide, always punctual, always with a smile, he explained everything to us in great detail, and gave us very good advice whenever we asked him... Paying attention to us in at all times, with a great sense of humor, very detailed... We had a really good time with him! Thank you so much Hamid, you made our trip really amazing. !We will be back!

Pleasant experience - A very good experience, especially with the guide/driver Hamid Yacoubi, who gave us recommendations and information about both the culture and the landscapes during the three days. In addition, it has been open to new proposals at all times. One thing to keep in mind is that since meals are not included, you are “forced” to eat in the places where the stops are made where there is not much to choose from, and we did not find them to be the best. Even so, we found this excursion 100% recommended.

Good Trip at 3.5 Star - We booked 2 trips back to back, firstly 3-DayTrip from Marrakesh to Fes via Sahara Dessert, followed by 2-Day Private Trip from Fes to Chefchaouen. So total of 5 days tour with Maroc Expedition. The reason we did not rate 4 star is because we felt that the experience was not “very good” as what 4-star denotes in TripAdvisor, but good enough to be above 3-star which is better than average with some areas for improvement. Below are our specific inputs based on our experience. 1) Booking communications via emails before and during the tour via WhatsApp was good, clear and prompt. This makes us feel at ease and hassle-free on the booking process, plus the communication on the driver whereabouts and minor change of plans. 2) Driver Mohammad was good, accommodating and polite. He is also a careful driver to ensure our safety along the journey. He even stopped by to let us see the almond flower for the first time and to try the local fresh oranges which was really good. More importantly, the vehicle provided (Mercedes) was comfortable and sturdy. Mohammad was a bit too quiet, perhaps it was Ramadan (fasting month) which we completely understand. Hence, some parts of the journey were dull due to lack of commentary about the country, history or culture. But he would reply whenever we prompted him. 3) We get to see all we wanted to based on the itinerary and some interesting sights are Kasbah Ait Ben Haddon (UNESCO World Heritage Site), Skoura Palm Groove, Dades Valley, Volubillis (Roman Ruins), Chefchaouen (Blue City) and the best experience was at the Merzouga Desert for the camel rides, plus the sunset and sunrise watching along Chebi Sand Dunes which was the highlight of the trip for Sahara Desert. However, some monuments at Meknes were under reconstruction which we were only told a day before which could have been informed earlier to set our expectations right. But, Muhammad was good to give suggestion to tweak the plan which we got to enjoy Fes more instead of heading to Meknes. 4) All accommodations provided at Dades Valley, Merzouga and Chefchaouen were good with good views especially the Riad at Chefchaouen and the tent at Merzouga Desert were particularly fun and interesting experience. The dinners provided by the accommodations were good and delicious, but the breakfasts were underwhelming at Dades Valley and Merzouga Desert with very limited choices. 5) The journey between Marrakesh to Merzouga and from Merzouga to Fes were super long and arduous journey especially when it is lack of commentary and oral discourse to make the journey more fun and interesting. However, Mohammad did make many pit stops for photo-takings and to visit a Beber family for rug making process. Whereas, the journey between Fes and Chefchaouen was relatively shorter with more beautiful landscapes, greenery, olives and orange tree plantations, plus beautiful wildflowers blooming in yellow and orange colours. Overall we had good time, and it will be even better if the above-stated areas of improvement are looked into for a “very good” or even “excellent” experiences. Morocco is definitely a beautiful country and rich in culture that is worth exploring. The pictures uploaded with these comments justify everything and we would still recommend Maroc Expeditions because it makes our travel plans much easier to cover the places we wanted to visit which is easy, convenient and hassle-free.
