Highlights

Marrakech – Tizi N’tichka – Telouat - Ait ben Haddou - Ouarzazate - Dades Valley

Tizi n Tichka - Known in English as “The Pass of Tichka,” this route is situated in the High Atlas Mountain range at an altitude of 2260 meters (7414 feet). It is the highest mountain pass in Morocco and offers breathtaking views of the northern side with its Berber villages. We’ll stop here to capture some panoramic photos.

Telouet - The Berber village of Telouet was once a key passage for merchant caravans connecting the desert with major cities beyond the Atlas Mountains. The nearby salt mines contributed to the wealth of the Pashas who lived in Telouet. The current kasbah was constructed starting in 1860 by Mohammed Ibiyet, the head of the Glaoui clan, and took five years to complete with the help of around 300 craftsmen from various parts of Morocco, including Fes. The kasbah was expanded over the years as the family’s power and wealth grew.

Ait Ben Haddou - We’ll stop for lunch and a guided tour of the Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a unique site that has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1987. Many popular American movies, such as The Gladiator, Asterix Obelix, Star Wars, Game of Thrones, The Jewel of the Nile, and The Last Temptation of Christ, have been filmed here.

Valley of the Roses - We’ll drive through the beautiful city known for its roses and Berber daggers. An optional stop is planned here for those interested in purchasing rosewater or other cosmetic products made from roses.

Boumalne Dades - This will be our first overnight stop before heading to the Sahara desert the next day. Located at the edge of a desert plateau at the outlet of the upper Dadès Valley (over 1500 meters high), Boumalne Dades has a history of transhumance, controlled by various tribes between summer pastures in the High Atlas and wintering grounds in Saghro. Most residents of the Dades Valley are Berber people.

Dades Valley - Boumalne – Tinghir – Todra Gorges – Rissani – Merzouga

Boumalne Dades - After breakfast at your Riad/Hotel, we’ll leave the Dades Valley and drive through the beautiful city of Boumalne Dades. A stop is scheduled here for panoramic photos and to admire the valley.

Tinghir - After leaving Boumalne Dades, we’ll head towards Merzouga, passing through the city of Tinghir, also known as the city of a thousand kasbahs, to reach the famous Todra Gorges.

Gargantas del Todra - We’ll stop for a walk to admire and take pictures of the stunning Todra Gorges, which rise about 300 meters (984 feet). If you’re lucky, you might see some mountaineers. An optional lunch is scheduled here before we continue our journey through Alnif and Rissani.

Merzouga Desert - Finally, we’ll arrive at the incredible sandy dunes of Merzouga Erg Chebbi in the Sahara desert for a camel ride, dinner, music, and an overnight stay under the stars.

Merzouga – Rissani – Alnif – Agdz – Ouarzazate

Rissani - After leaving Merzouga, we’ll reach Rissani city in about 30 minutes. Once a major caravan center, an optional stop is planned to visit the Berber market or a mineral fossils exhibition and workshop. During the Paleozoic era (about 540 million to 250 million years ago), this area was underwater. You can also try fresh camel’s milk here if interested.

Agdz - Located about 65 kilometers south of Ouarzazate, Agdz (meaning “resting place” in Berber) was an important stop on the old caravan route linking Marrakech to Timbuktu. It is also known for its large, stunning palm oasis.

Ouarzazate - Known as the “door of the desert,” Ouarzazate has been the filming location for many popular movies, including The Gladiator, Star Wars, Game of Thrones, Kingdom of Heaven, and The Mummy. The next day, you’ll visit the Taourirt Kasbah, considered one of the most beautiful kasbahs in the country.

Ouarzazate - Telouat - Tizi N’tichka - Marrakech

Taourirt Kasbah - After breakfast at your Riad/Hotel, get ready for a guided tour of the Taourirt Kasbah, a historic fortified residence complex built in the 17th century by the Imzwarn family and later expanded by the Glaoui family in the 19th century.

Atlas Studios - An optional visit to the Atlas Corporation Studios is available. As the first film studio in North Africa, it spans 20 hectares and offers all necessary services and equipment for productions, including exterior and interior sets, production offices, workshops, stables with trained animals, and accommodation at the Oscar Hotel. The studios are open daily for visitors to explore various sets, including a Tibetan temple, Egyptian palaces, and kasbahs.

Tizi n Tichka - We’ll cross the Tichka pass again to return to Marrakech, concluding an incredible journey through Morocco’s Sahara desert filled with adventures, historical sites, and cultural experiences.

The highlight of our honeymoon!! - Mouad was brilliant! This was the best tour we’ve ever done. We were on our honeymoon & Mo really lived to everything being comfortable & luxurious. We have never received such care and safety. It’s as if we were royalty. He is very knowledgeable, honest, & clever. We will definitely be back. We have fallen in love with Morocco and it’s all thanks to Mo. We also really appreciate Adil, he organised everything and sent our itinerary early on so we can look up the hotels they’ve booked and he took on any requirements we had. The communication was excellent! Honestly, these people are the absolute best.

Great Moroccan experience - Really enjoyable trip. Yassine was a super guide and driver. He was very friendly and accommodating to our needs. The car was a new merc, very comfortable. The hotels and camps were lovely choices and the dinners included were delicious! A really good way to see some of Morocco's highlights and try local cuisine. We particularly enjoyed the night in the Sahara.

Fabulous Tour to Merzouga Dunes - My wife and I enjoyed amazing sites and experiences on Comfort Travel Morocco Private Tours’ 4-Day Sahara Desert Tour from Marrakech to the Merzouga Dunes and back. We booked the Private Transport Only option of the tour with Tripadvisor and then dealt directly with Mouàad at Comfort Travel Morocco Private Tours to tailor the details of our tour. The places we visited were accurately described on Tripadvisor. We booked our accommodations for the tour with another supplier, so we had several questions for Mouàad to ensure that the transport and accommodation aspects of our tour were properly coordinated. Mouàad always replied promtly in detail with patience and professionalism which we appreciated. Our driver, Adil, was very personable and friendly, spoke English quite well, and went out of his way to make our tour comfortable and remarkable, stopping for photos or breaks whenever we asked. The lunch stops he chose were excellent. Adil drove carefully at reasonable speed, never passed unsafely, and handled the twists and turns over the Atlas Mountains with the skill of a professional, experienced driver. The 5 km late afternoon camel ride to our campsite was the highlight of our tour. The late day sun at our backs made the desert orange as far as the eye could see – spectacular! Being a landscape photographer for 50+ years, it was difficult to put my camera down. Mouàad, many thanks to you and Adil for making our tour a remarkable experience to remember forever.

Wonderful experience! - We had a great experience with the 4-day Marrakech to Merzouga Desert Tour with Mouàad ("Moe") who was an excellent guide with amazing English. We were able to explore so much and stayed in two wonderful Riads as well as a night camping in the desert. Mouàad shared a lot of insight and knowledge about the area and made us feel comfortable. He was always professional (and makes a dashing figure in a suit!). Mouàad was flexible and always kind to us-we miss him already! Thanks for a great educational experience!

4 Day Tour to Merzouga - I booked a 4 day tour from Marrakech to Merzouga and back with Comfort Travels Private Tours. It was a beautiful experience overall. I would highly recommend booking with this travel company. There is a very strong focus on quality. Everything from the Riad to the food to the van, and even down to the dressing style of the tour guide is high quality. The intinerary was very well planned. We packed a lot of things in 4 days without feeling exhausted, and got to experience the breathtaking beauty of the dunes and the desert night sky. Our tour guide, Mouaad, would always ask us if we need to stop for food, water, toilets, medicine etc. asking along the way. There was honesty and transparency from start to finish. We never felt that things were hidden from us, which makes the company very trustworthy and reliable. On a personal note, I very much enjoyed Mouaad's companionship. He is respectful, reliable, funny and well spoken in English, Arabic, Italian. The long distance between Marrakech and Merzouga was never boring because of our interesting discussions on different topics including, movies, video games, Moroccan culture, economy, politics, human psychology etc. Mouaad was not just a driver/tour operator, he is a friend that I look forward to visiting again.

The Best of Morocco - I'm beyond grateful to take on this recommendation from a friend. Travelled Morocco with my parents so I wanted them to be comfortable and enjoy amidst the August summer heat. Mo, our guide and awesome driver, is the best guide out there! He took care of us, made sure we are well hydrated, took photos for us, and I could have not asked for a better guide. He made us an itinerary where we wanted to go, drove us in a comfy van, and booked the best riads in every town we've been to. We had the best experiences and memories we took back home. The Sahara experience will always be my favourite! You can never go wrong with this company! Absolutely the best!

Moroccon magic - What a fabulous trip! We stayed in luxurious hotels, met Richard Branson, hiked North Africa's highest mountain, slept under the stars in the sahara desert and had the best guide maud to sort it all out. Me and my partner really felt listend to and Maud made sure we had our vegan diets catered for and dairy free milk everyday, even if he meant going out of his way to buy them so we didn't go without. He even suprised my partner with a birthday present. This company goes way ahead and beyond to make your holiday special.Thank you for making our trip once in a lifetime time! I will always remember it and your passion for the country. I still have that JaJa song in my head.....possibly forever.

Wonderful group Sahara adventure - We were a group consisting of 7 persons and we did an amazing desert tour with comfort travel morocco, a great tour company which was recommended by our friends. Yassine our driver is a great person, he was very patient all the time although we were not, drives safe and was knowledgeable. We booked this tour and made it customized that we had to be left in Fes and instead he also and kindly arranged a full day city tour of fes before he left us, it was really worth it. Hakim is an excellent tour guide, and highly recommend him if you're in fes.

Tour and company very recommended - We are a couple from the U.S and were recommended this tour operator by friends, we were staying in Marrakech for a couple of days and thought of doing a little tour around the country heading either north or south, we've been in touch with Mouaad our tour organizer and suggested the this 4 day Sahara desert tour at this time of the year, and surely it's been one of our best journeys ever, bearing in mind we've never been in a Sahara desert before. The whole itinerary was perfectly organized and I'm absolutely sure it couldn't be better. The drive, the scenic road with countless beautiful villages, Kasbahs and the guided visits, food and people in particular. We enjoyed the camel rode to our camp and the camp itself which fancy from the inside. There is no doubt we will recommend you guys, thanks from the bottom of our hearts.
