Highlights
  • Marrakech - Your day trip to the Atlas Mountains from Marrakech begins with meeting your 4x4 driver/guide at your hotel or riad. You’ll head south of the city, driving through the Haouz plains to reach the Agafay desert. From there, enjoy an off-the-beaten-path drive to the lake of Lalla Takerkoust, where you’ll stop to take in the view and snap some photos.
  • Agafay - Next, you have the option of a 30-minute camel ride at the slopes of the Atlas Mountains before continuing your journey through the narrow mountain roads to Kik Plateau, admiring the scattered Berber villages along the way.
  • Atlas Mountains - Your adventure continues through rugged terrains to the village of Imlil. Here, you’ll leave the 4x4 behind and embark on a moderate one-hour hike to ‘Aroumd,’ a small Berber village in the heart of Toubkal National Park. This village is renowned for its stunning views of Toubkal Mountain, the highest peak in North Africa (4,167 m / 13,671 ft). Don’t miss the small waterfall along the way, which your local guide will point out.
  • Aroumd - After enjoying a delicious Berber Tagine lunch served by a host family in Aroumd Village, you’ll descend back to Imlil and have a smooth ride back to Marrakech through Tahennaout, the main town in the region, known for its weekly market every Tuesday.
  • Marrakech - Your day trip to the Atlas Mountains concludes around 16:00 with a drop-off at your hotel or riad in Marrakech.

Nice day tour from Marrakesh - A nice day trip for the ones who want to explore more than Marrakesh and its surroundings. The tour itself is very well organized. A recommendation for a guide called Ismail.

Great Day Trip to Atlas Mountains - Nice trip in mountains with camel ride and dressing up in Berber cloths on the way which was fun and broke up the journey. We stopped at Argan oil shop where we would prefer to see more of mountains and local village life. Went to village home for lunch with great views of mountains from the terrace. Great day with very knowledgeable and friendly guide.

10/10 Atlas Mountains Tour! - This trip was what we wanted and more. The driver arrived very promptly to collect us, we headed into the mountains, wore traditional dress for a camel ride, had Moroccan tea on a rooftop, headed further up the mountain and stopped to take in the views, had breakfast (delicious bread and oils) at the women’s cooperative, where they make the oils, headed to Imlil, did a short hike (2.6k) to the waterfall and then had lunch, with the peak of the Atlas mountain in view, all expertly guided by Omar Imzilen. He was very informative, helpful and hospitable. A very memorable day, thank you to Omar and our driver!

Fabulous interesting day out - All of it was excellent. Loved the breakfast with peanut butter and beautiful lunch in Berber home. Atlas mountain was worth the hike and stunning waterfall at top. Amazed to see the cafe at top. Camel ride was a one off for me! Glad I did it though.

A stunning trip with a smaller, local company - book it! - Myself and my dad had a fantastic day on this tour. The guides (Omar Imzilen and the driver, sorry I forgot his name) were prompt, knowledgeable and extremely helpful and friendly. The camel ride was so much fun - my dad especially loved it. We got local tea afterwards which was great. After this we wound our way through the Atlas mountains with stunning views of rivers, waterfalls, local villages and desert. We stopped at a women's cooperative where they make argan oil and have us a late breakfast of bread and dips (olive oil, argan oil, and a peanut paste) - delicious! After this we went higher into the mountains along winding roads past donkeys, goats, horses and sheep. The hour long (slightly steep at the start but VERY manageable) walk was such a highlight. The views were stunning - we got to see Berber villages nestled in the valleys, a wonderful waterfall, and the highest peak in north Africa. On we headed to the guide's grandparents house for a massive lunch of tangine, couscous, vegetables and bread. The quantities were massive and the food delicious! Then, a lovely drive back to the city through the mountains. All in all it was a great day and my dad has been raving about how much fun it was. Don't hesitate and please book this trip. There are other more touristy companies but this is run by Omar and his cousin and was much more personal. Oh, and it was a little cooler in the mountains than in Marrakech so bring a light jacket. Enjoy!
