- Sigiriya The Ancient Rock Fortress - The capital and the royal palace was abandoned after the king’s death. It was used as a Buddhist monastery until the 14th century. Sigiriya today is a UNESCO listed World Heritage site. It is also declared by UNESCO as the eighth wonder of the world. It is one of the best preserved examples of ancient urban planning.
- Pidurangala Rock - Pidurangala Rock is an incredible 360-degree viewpoint located opposite the world-famous Sigiriya Lion Rock. Hiking to the top is possible for both of these rocks, but hiking at dawn to the top of Pidurangala Rock is a real adventure.

trip to Sigiriya & Dambulla UNESCO heritage sites - This trip was one in a lifetime!
Both sites are marvellous, but Sigiryia is particularly unique - and challenging too! To climb all those steps up to the palace ruins in such a wet and hot climate is not for the faint hearted! But it is certainly worthwhile!
Also, MAhesh, our driver/guide, was wonderful, very friendly and helpful, and speaks a very good english.
I strongly recommend this day trip!
