  • Dambulla Royal Cave Temple - In Dambulla we will visit The Cave Temple. This dates back to the 1st century BC and is the most impressive cave temple in Asia. It has five caves under a vast overhanging rock, carved with a drip line to keep the interiors dry. In 1938 the architecture was embellished with arched colonnades and gabled entrances. Inside the caves, the ceilings are painted with intricate patterns of religious images following the contours of the rock. There are images of the Lord Buddha and bodhisattvas, as well as various gods and goddesses.( Entrance fee is Rs.2000/- per head)
  • Sigiriya The Ancient Rock Fortress - Next you will be driven to Sigiriya Rock Fortress, approximate 30 minutes drive from Golden Temple of Dambulla. One of the most important historical places in Sri Lanka and a UNESCO World Heritage site, the Sigiriya Lion Rock is a magnificent fortress and temple complex atop a high volcanic plateau. Locally also called the eighth wonder of the world, this stunning site features high on the list of places to visit in Dambulla and Sigiriya. The main entrance is shaped like a huge stone lion, whose feet survive till date. The palace complex, which also served as a monastery for many years, is surrounded by beautiful landscaped gardens and unique water & boulder gardens. Sigiriya western wall is adorned with beautiful frescoes.
  • Minneriya National Park - Adjoining the gentle lapping waters of the Minneriya tank lays the evergreen Minneriya National Park. Declared a national park on the 12th of August 1997, the Minneriya National Park is considered as one of the 70 important bird areas of Sri Lanka.
    One of the highlights of the park is the Minneriya tank which was built by King Mahasen, and is fed by the Amban River and Elahera canal.
    The park is spotted with a variety of habitation which includes canopy forests, scrubs, grasslands, rocky outcrops, and wetlands. There are a variety of plants both rare and common that occupy the 88.9 sq km park, including teak and eucalyptus.
    What you can see is,
    The main attraction of the park is its herd of wild elephants which convene in large numbers, sometimes up to 200. According to expert sources the best time to visit the park is between May and September. This is when the tank dries up to reveal a bit of green which attracts the playful and sometimes rare animals of the park. Apart from that is the park houses around 24 species of mammals, 160 species of birds, 9 species of amphibians, 25 species of reptiles, 26 species of fish, and 75 species of butterflies, to be exact! If you are fortunate you’ll be able to spot one of the two endemic monkeys of Sri Lanka: Purple-faced Langur and the Toque Macaque. Also striding across the park are some of the endangered species such as the Sri Lankan Leopard and Sri Lankan Sloth Bear
