Additional Information

Witness the dawning of a new day atop Haleakala (the house of the sun) a dormant volcanic mountain overlooking Maui on the east side. Deep canyons and slopes and unspoiled terrain are home to endemic Hawaiian Nene geese and rare Silversword plants.

You’ll be transported in a comfortable mini coach to 9,740 feet elevation, close to the summit to witness the ultimate sunrise; a spectacular show of lights and colors. The sunrise tour is an unforgettable experience and a definite must-do on your Hawaii vacation. On the descent, marvel at sprawling scenic views of Kula and the Pacific Ocean on your way to breakfast at local favorite, Mill House Restaurant in Waikapu.

  • Please contact the tour provider at minimum of 7 days prior to the tour date for ADA and all special requests.
  • Haleakala is known for rapidly changing weather conditions and dense clouds and rain are common. As a result, clear viewing of the sunrise is not guaranteed, and the tour operates rain or shine. Refunds will be granted only when the tour is cancelled for safety reasons.
  • The high altitude at the summit area may complicate health conditions and breathing difficulties. Elderly visitors, pregnant women, young children, and those with respiratory or heart conditions should consult their doctor prior to touring. Walk slowly and drink water to avoid dehydration. If you have gone scuba diving, you should wait at least 72 hours before going on this tour.

Breathtaking - Our tour guide was amazing! The views up top were breathtaking! It is very cold and windy so glad we saw others comments about the weather and dressed accordingly. The place we ate breakfast after was very charming. One piece of advice is Bring snacks and water bc you do not eat for at least 6 hours.

3rd highest altitude in the world - Preston was a great tour guide. He was clear about his expectations regarding our time and more importantly about our experience. He offered a ton of details and inspiring stories that helped us appreciate our time with him. This is the 3rd highest altitude in the world, the shadow of the earth, the plants and so so much more... He had lots of jokes, too! We were fortunate to have a clear view! It was in the 40s so dress accordingly. Breakfast was delicious. Thank you, Polynesian Adventure

Put this on Maui visit itinerary! - While some might get turned off by the early departure pickup, this visit is definitely worth it. Our tour guide, Kaneala, couldn’t have been any nicer or more informative about the park and Maui’s history. Knowing you are atop the third largest mountain in the world (from the sea floor) while the sun rises above the Pacific and the Park Ranger there sings a native Hawaiian song celebrating the sunrise gave me a lasting memory I won’t ever forget. Fit this into your itinerary…you won’t regret it!

The Best Spiritual Wakeup Call - Breathtaking and worth the early wake-up call. I loved that our small group arrived at dark (seemingly well before most other tourists arrival), in time to see the space station fly overhead, planets, and constellations. Our guide, Preston, was full of knowledge. We learned more from him than the ranger speech. Must bundle up, pants (not leggings like me)/ski pants, jacket/coat, and/or layered sweaters, NO flip flops. We were here mid-August and it was freezing at the top and very windy, but all well worth doing to see this moving and spectacular natural show.

Beautiful Sunrise Tour - My family of 14 people had an amazing trip to see the sunrise. Preston is a phenomenal driver and tour guide. He is detail oriented and informative throughout the trip. We were underdressed for the cold weather in the mountains but Preston was so thoughtful and caring and provided all of us with extra attire he had. Preston is a great conversationalist and love his Hawaiian history lessons! He treated us like family, we’re extremely lucky that he took us up to Haleakala! The sunset was incredibly beautiful and a sight every one should see. The 2:30am tour start time was totally worth it for this wonderful experience. The breakfast place was great and efficient. Definitely worth seeing with your loved ones in Maui!
